Are you looking to rent or buy?
What is your budget for this project?
How big of an area is the apartment?
I think this is probably a question you should be asking your operator. After all they are the one that will be holding the camera for over 2 hours. -
A simple solution would be to purchase a small 4 channel mixer and a headphone amplifier with a minimum of 2 HP outputs. Plug the stereo out of the mac into channels 1 & 2 of the mixer and the headset mics into ch’s 3 & 4. Take the headphone output of the mixer to the HP amp and then plug the 2 sets of HP’s into that. you can then balance the levels via the mixer.

Yes exactly, however when you are using the inputs 1 & 2 for external sources, the onboard stereo mic automatically gets routed to tracks 3 & 4 and if you have ALC on it does act as a control for the level of the onboard mic as there is no manual control in that situation.

There is no power supplied from the camera to the 1394 bus. So you would need to use an external power supply for the hard drive. Your other alternative is to use a mac G4 laptop or a PC laptop with a slot that will take the P2 cards and connect the portable drive to that. Much better way of doing it as you can have FCP 5 loaded on the mac and check that the footage transferred ok before you re-format the cards. G4 laptops can be picked up pretty cheap on ebay.

Besides any functionality differences, when using a digital recorder, the biggest concern would be the A to D converters. When the signal passes from the mixer into the recorder it has to be converted from analog to digital. The converters on a 702 would be far superior to those of a H4n.

[Noah Kadner] “Er sorry- it’s not that kind of camera. Professional = non-auto audio.”
Well that’s not entirely true. There is a function called ALC (auto level control) in the recording set up menu which when set to on supposedly reduces distortion at high input levels, although it does say in the manual that it doesn’t change the audio signal recording level.

Most thieves would not give you serial numbers especially if you ask for them by saying you want to check the stolen items database. A legitimate seller would usually be happy to oblige.
Here are a couple of websites you can check and you may want to just type the serial number and make and model into google and see if anything comes up.

I would ask for a serial number (preferably a close up photo) of the camera and FS as well as a copy of any purchase receipts if they have them. Chances are if the products are hot, you wont here from them again.

[Olly Lawer] “Is there any way of getting rid of them?”
You can edit them out but if he is talking right where they happen then you are stuck with them. If you want to post a small file with one spike I will take a listen and see what I can do.
