i have just upgraded to final cut 5.04. working on duel 2.5 with 2gig ram. i am working on a dv sequence.
everytime i do a transition there is a shift at the end of it. looks like a phase shift, the frame clunks down a bit. whether using footage or stills i see the shift. i have trashed preferences twice and have tried everything
i can think of. i dropped the swap fields filter on it and the shift went away, but then the footage looked terrible. i have never seen this happen before. please help! thanks,
    don

Have you tried deleting your render files?

is the footage bright? i have had this happen before, i adjusted the brightness and it helped. even if the footage is not over exposed.

    Proably a field order issue.

Change your sequence settings to lower for NTSC, upper for PAL, but lower for all DV based editing.

ok….this is very bizare. the only thing that corrects the problem is if i drop
a filter on the scene. it can be the flicker filter or any of the video filters.
this seems to shift it up a scan line and take away the problem. if you ask
me this is a crazy fix……

Have you tried rendering the transition?

Yeah, you’ve got to render the transition. I had the same problem – I didn’t understand all the ins and outs of preview vs. rendered. Do a “full” render on that section. Go to your drop down, “modify”, “render selection”, “full”. Then select the transition (or a little before and a little after it via in and out points on your timeline), “render selection”, and you’re done. Should work – but, might not.
