And if you can’t find the download link for V 10e, you can find it here:

    https://sony-555.vo.llnwd.net/dspcdn/current/vegaspro100e_32bit.exe“>https://web.archive.org/web/20110718060038/https://sony-555.vo.llnwd.net/dspcdn/current/vegaspro100e_32bit.exe

You will, of course, need your original license #.

  • If I may Graham,

Would you have had better results if your still had been a PNG instead of a JPG?

    To Patty

The biggest advantage of PNG over JPEG is that the compression is lossless. And since it can provide an almost perfect pixel-for-pixel representation of the screen, rather than compressing groups of pixels together, you may have better luck.

When you do a screen capture, Vegas gives you 2 save format choices. Could you send the PNG version so that we can all take a crack at it ?

It’s a long shot but hey, if it can improve your footage…

    Hi Ole

Good point. No 4K or UHD in the near futur. My XF-305s are more than adequate for what I do.

I guess my main question was to know what was the maximum hardware power Vegas Pro can make use of before anything above that would be superfluous and a waist of money.

It’s not that for me money is no object but I don’t mind spending the extra coin in order to get a workstation that will give me flawless previews, more than decent render time, etc… especially when your timelines are effect heavy.

    Hope I was clearer.

Cheers, and Thx for your time !

    Hi again Bobby

1- Version of Vegas you are using

2- Did this start from out of the blue and everything worked fine before?

3- If it worked well before, have you added new software ? Hardware ? Plug-ins ?

If at all possible, can you record a screen grab of the problem and post it ?

    Cheers !

March 21, 2018 at 10:23 pm in reply to: Black Preview Screen – iPhone Videos

    Hi Bart

MXF is a “container” or “wrapper” format which supports a number of different streams of coded “essence”, encoded in any of a variety of video and audio compression formats. Just like QuikTime.

More simply put, it’s like a box where you can put different things in it.

”I used another program to create the mxf files from my iphone .mov files”

Now let’s get a little technical:

Sony’s XDCAM MXF is supported by Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro X, Autodesk Smoke, Avid, Capella systems, Dalet, EVS, Imagine Communications Corp., Omneon, Quantel, Rhozet, Sony Vegas Pro, Sorenson Squeeze, Telestream FlipFactory, GrassValley EDIUS, Grass Valley K2, and Merging Technologies VCube.

Panasonic’s P2 MXF is supported by Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro X, Autodesk Smoke, Avid, Dalet, EVS, GrassValley EDIUS,[3] and Grass Valley K2.

Ikegami offers camcorders capable of recording in MXF wrapper using Avid DNxHD video encoding at 145 Mbit/s, as well as MPEG-2 video encoding at 50 Mbit/s 4:2:2 long-GOP and 100 Mbit/s I-frame.

In 2010 Canon released its new lineup of professional file-based camcorders. The recording format used in these camcorders incorporates MPEG-2 video with bitrates up to 50 Mbit/s and 16-bit linear PCM audio in what Canon has called XF codec. Canon claims that its flavor of MXF is fully supported by major NLE systems including Adobe Premiere, Apple Final Cut Pro X, Avid Media Composer, and Grass Valley EDIUS.[4]

Basically, you have save your file in a format not recognized by Vegas, in a ”container” (MXF)

Convert your file to a format recognized by Vegas (you can use handbrake to convert) Follow link below for recognized formats. (bottom of page)

  • Hi Kell

One of the thing you fail to mention, apart from Graham’s request, is the format is was shot at originally (NTSC or PAL) I will assume NTSC since it is 23.976 (AKA 24p). If the other material is not NTSC, your 23.976 can be converted to the PAL format. The most popular method is to speed up the material by 1/24 (~4.1%). Each 24p frame will take the place of two 50i fields. This method incurs no motion artifacts other than the slightly increased speed, which is typically not noticeable. As for audio, the ~4% increase in speed raises the pitch by 0.7 of a semitone, which again typically is not noticed. Sometimes the audio is pitch shifted to restore the original pitch. Also, in general, 24 frames-per-second video has more trouble with fast camera motion than other, higher frame rates, sometimes showing a “strobe” or “choppy” motion, just like 24 frame/s film will if shot as if it is video, without slower camera panning & zooming motion. It is therefore not well-suited for programming requiring spontaneous camera action or “reality” camerawork.

    Cheers !
