2 things.

1- You are running QT 7.7.9. You should be running 7.6.8 Nothing above that version.

2- .MOV is a container. Just like a box, it can have something different inside.

Run Mediainfo on you file and post. We’ll take a look at it. https://sourceforge.net/projects/mediainfo/

.MKV is mainly for HD on the Net. Why not render right away for DVD ? I’m assuming by ”That I will copy to a DVD as a video file. So the size can’t exceed 8Gb.” that you will be using DVD-9 as a recorded medium and not Blu-ray. Then your file should be rendered as a Mainconcept Mpeg-2 in Vegas. When you render, it’s always a plus to activate the Two-Pass box.

It depends on what you will be doing with the file when you’re done. Make a DVD, post to Youtube, archive, etc…

There are another elements to consider.

The choice of images you are fading from and to. A fade can look fluid going to a long shot but feel jerky if you’re going to a close up (or vice versa). If you’re the shooter, this is were planning ahead pays off once in edit.

The other element is rythme. Just like a piece of music, if you brake the rythme of your edit, it won’t feel right. Especially with fades and cuts.

You may also want to look at your file, prior to any FX added to it, with the Waveform. It will tell you if your original file has some hot spots. Then, with the help of that same waveform, you can easily adjust accordingly. Some players are notorious in mucking up the images. If you are within the specs on the waveform then everything should be honky dory.

Hi Jefferson

Using the D key won’t erase anything in itself. It maybe that you’ve shrunk your tracks.

If you go to the far bottom right of your Vegas edit window, there are 2 sets of + and –

Press repeatedly on the + above the – until the tracks get larger. Then do the same with the + besides the minus.

Do you see your missing tracks ?

Just to add to George’s comment, I found that Version 7.6.8 worked fine with Vegas Pro V10 and above. I vaguely remember that above versions were problematic.
