I read that 1024×57 is now supposed to be 1050×576 in Premiere CS5

This seems to work

With 640×360 …. should this now be 656×360?

Or is it better to just crop left and right by 8 pixels?

yeah its 720×576 4:3 footage straight from a handycam

Its just everywhere else says (particularly Vimeo) 640×480 however when I do that there are thin black bars at the top and bottom …if I wanted 640×480 would I also need to crop it by a certain amount of pixels?

what I meant was DV comes in as .mov … is that correct ..what codec?

and HDV comes in a mpeg2 iframe or something?

both effects work really well.

Obviously with both its still running at 25fps its just doubling up on certain frames correct?

ah ok … so there not much you can do about it then.

just simply keep your text within the title safe zone and everything else within the action safe zone.

I thought they were there for a reason! 😛

My only other problem is down converting from the 1920x1080p square pixel comp in PPro to 720×576 widescreen Pal. Obviously it adds pillar bars either side.

I have burnt a sample DVD and when I play it on my TV + DVD player these dissapear and it seems to crop automatically ….however it crops it a bit to much and cuts off some of the lettering at the side of my video.

Maybe it would be best if I crop myself in the media export box (whilst transcoding inside Encore using the steps you just showed me) ?

So instead of just “send to encore” inside premiere and transcode in Encore …it’s better to encode (using AME) to MPEG2 DVD and then just start a new Encore project and import into Encore and burn…correct?

Also I am having troubles with small black pillar bars …however I gather that this is normal when down scaling from 1920×1080 square pixels to 720×576 Pal widescreen pixels? My only options are I can either crop or leave as they are.

Unfortunately they do not have the original footage as the DVD was created a few years ago…otherwise that would have been ideal 🙂

I have got mpeg streamclip and have tried a few different formats however quicktime animation seems to be the best despite coming out a nearly 20GB ..any other good formats to try?

There are so many ways of conforming 29.97 fps to 25fps however I just don’t know which one to use … I like Andrew Kramers frame rate preset however it does not seem to work now as it’s not 64bit.

any suggestions on the best way to convert from NTSC frame rate to Pal

I need to convert it so I can import into premiere and edit the footage for web and DVD.

Ppro recognises but It seems to be interlaced and in some shooting format specific to the Sony bloggie camera and also it’s 30fps.

ah ok it sounds like your systems are much more powerfull then what I’m using 🙂

Just as an experiment I have downloaded Avids QT component and experimented with a bit of footage in DNxHD and the same bit of footage in the orignal raw h.264 format.

My computer seems to handle the native footage pretty well actually ….however Premiere seems to scrub through the DNxHD footage a bit more smoothly and preciseley.

The other big difference is obviously the original clip of footage is 2.2GB whereas the converted DNxHD (exactly the same length) is 8.94GB. Is there any problems working now with a larger file? Or I’m guessing this much better for Premiere as it a larger and less compressed file?

I would be happy to just edit in the orignal raw h.264 footage however I was a bit worried about then adding effects and a grade…which I have heard is a bit more intensive with raw h.264 footage and creates some real slow rendering?
