  • device control settings?

Posted by Ewan Horlock on November 10, 2011 at 11:51 am

    Hi there,

    Just a quick question

    May sound really stupid

I was wandering if someone could tell me about the DV/HDV device control settings within he preference menu.

Do I need to set this up with my camera… brand type etc

Or does it make a difference?

Also is there anybody who could tell me about what format Premiere captures DV and HDV video in … I have Premiere CS5 Mac.

    thanks for your time 🙂

If you are capturing via FireWire – it’ll most likely read it just fine. Hook up cam/deck b/4 launching the app.

DV and HDV via FW come in as they are. FW transfers digital information.
    DV comes in as DV.

    Hook it up, hit record.

what I meant was DV comes in as .mov … is that correct ..what codec?

and HDV comes in a mpeg2 iframe or something?

Yes, DV comes in a .mov, everything comes in to a .mov file, this is what FCP edits.

HDV is it’s own codec. Still .mov. It is long-gop, you can ingest to Prores, highly recommended.

DV comes in a DV. (quicktime.mov)

Sorry, thought you were in FCP, don’t know if you have the Prores option in APP when capturing HDV.
