    I like the color palette.

  • I don’t even want to see a new Final Cut Pro until it does everything FCP 7 did. I’m doing my next job on the Avid until that happens.

I’m afraid the operating system on a Mac Pro or Laptop is going to become this iPad like interface. Then everything will exist in the “cloud” and we will be back to this mainframe like super system. We will have no control over the devices we buy. Everything will then become subscription based and we will be paying for these services like a cable bill and be beholden to these people for basic services the way we are beholden to the electric or phone company.

But someone else will figure out a better way. And Apple will not longer be what we grew up with.

I do like the idea of a Minority Report touchscreen like editing interface though. That could be cool.

Why didn’t they just call it Final Cut Pro Express? I don’t understand how someone made this decision and expected everyone to follow through with this release? It reeks of arrogance. Are they Apple or Microsoft now?

How do you archive products produced from file-based workflows? On tape. Sure in ten years we might have some awesome solid-state devices that will last 20 years or more but right now that doesn’t exist. The reality is that I capture and lay to HDCAMSR on a daily basis. I can’t use this software at my job.

I agree. Lightworks has a roadmap on their site:

I could edit DPX files with Lightworks too. I could put it on the same computer as our Smoke and have an offline/online system. If Adobe could port their creative suite over to Linux I may not even have to use OS X. Then I could even switch over to the Droid.

Well it’s outputting but there is aliasing in the image. It looks like the Kona card is using an impulse like algorithm to downconvert the picture. When I render a section as ProRes 4444 instead of RGB the picture outputs ok. Odd. Contacting AJA.

I understand. I’m trying to output 1920×1080. It seems to work if I turn the “mirror to desktop” button off.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for the posts.

I am looking to understand ProRes 4444 better. I see a lot of talk about the codec supporting YCbCr and RGB. I was interested to get a solid understanding of when and how to use it. When does the codec store information in YCbCr? When does it store it as RGB? That sort of thing. I can capture RGB Dual Link material from an HDCAMSR using the ProRes 4444 easy setup but the timeline is set to YUV 10-bit rendering? When does SMPTE range and Full Range come into play etc?

    Thanks.

Yeah we have the DX hardware. So it looks like I should have them send DNx Quicktimes over the to Avid for proper output in the future.

    Thanks Shane.
