  • Proper output of 2048×1152 RGB files to tape

Posted by Eugene Lehnert on March 22, 2011 at 4:50 pm

I have a 2048×1152 RGB file that I need to output to an HDCAM. Usually when I have 2048×1152 ProRes material the Kona 3 card does a straight downconvert to 1920×1080. But this RGB material is output at it’s native resolution pinned to the top left corner and I am getting a gamma shift. What are the proper settings for outputting this material to tape?

[Eugene Lehnert] “I have a 2048×1152 RGB file that I need to output to an HDCAM.”

HDCam does not support frames larger than 1920×1080.

HDCamSR only supports beyond 1920 x1080 recording on the 5800 Series deck with a specific add on package.

I understand. I’m trying to output 1920×1080. It seems to work if I turn the “mirror to desktop” button off.

    Thanks.

Well it’s outputting but there is aliasing in the image. It looks like the Kona card is using an impulse like algorithm to downconvert the picture. When I render a section as ProRes 4444 instead of RGB the picture outputs ok. Odd. Contacting AJA.

Just curious, but why not nest your 2k in a 1080 YUV ProRes 422 HQ sequence? Why try and retain 2k/RGB when you’re going out to single link 1080 video tape?

If that’s not feasible, it sounds like you might have the wrong 2k settings selected? There’s more than a few to choose from.
