Ed,
Have you compared Episode to Cleaner? Plus’s/Minus’s?
I kinda’ want to stay in Mac for most of this conversion. I can do the transfer to PC for some really important higher-quality WMV files, but time is money and making AVI’s, copying them, moving to a different room, loading them etc is just too time consuming for most projects.

This might help. I had a similar issue. It turned out to be one of my RAID drives was flaky. If you can’t figure your issue out, try creating a two-drive RAID and see if that fixes it. (You have to keep trying until you find the bad drive)

You question is kinda’ like why is the sky blue? There are so many variables. Outdoor where? Like at a concert, a backyard patio etc. There’s really no exact answer. But, try these ideas until it sounds close to what you think is correct.
As far as which effects to use, First, I’d add pretty heavy compression to the music track as that will take it away from sounding like a ‘real’ music track and give it an FM quality. Then add reverb (try different size halls or rooms) Then, add some bass as most concerts always have the bass cranked and that usually overwelms the upper frequencies. If your going for a backyard and some speakers mounted on a patio. Then cut the bass as tiny speakers don’t have much.
Hope that helps get you started.

Thanks for posting that info. I’ve been amazed at my HDX900 since I bought it. Now, I really don’t regret any ‘second thoughts’ I had about the Sony.

It could be a bad drive. I had this happen. One of my 5 RAID drives started acting up and it would drop frames once in a while. I replaced it and it fixed the issue. Just a thought.

It seems everytime I’ve read about a user getting dropped frames, it turns out to be their RAID. Is your’s fast enough? Or, more likely, is it nearly full? When drives get past 3/4 full, the speed drops significantly. Do you have an app that checks disk i/o speed?

Fixed! But not after a bunch of brain-damage.
The problem turned out to be I was selecting under View: 525i/29.97 instead of 720p/59.94. I was thinking it had to be set for SD instead of HD. All is fine and down-converting beautifully!

“Which Easy Setup are you using and what is your Video Playback set to in your Audio/Video settings in FCP? BTW, this really belongs in the AJA Kona Forum”
Well, it may not be a Kona issue, as it might be my FCP settings.
Easy Setup = DVCProHD 720p30
Settings = Frame Size: 960 x 720 (Aspect HD (960×720) (16:9)
Pixel Aspect: HD (960×720) Anamorphic Unchecked
Compressor DVCPRO HD 720p60—————-
VIEW>EXTERNAL VIDEO>ALL FRAMES is set
After checking all this, I still get the freeze frame on ‘Play’.

No dice. I’ve tried both ways you mentioned. Same thing, the video freezes on Play. Any other settings I need to set?
