Believe it or not, I have not shot any 1080i footage yet. All my clients are working in 720p. That’s the main reason I bought the 900. The ability to go 1080i, is a nice-to-have feature right now.

I’ve seen a few used ones on the web that were going for between $30-40K (w/out lens and not sure of hours) FYI, I did see a post on the highdef.com forum that had a guy looking for a used one.

I was just in the market to buy a camera. I extensively compared the Varicam with the HDX900. The pluses for the 900 far outweighed the Varicam. Variable shutter speeds being the main difference as we all know. I’ve been shooting a Varicam for over 3 years and the slow ‘blur’ effect was nice, but I didn’t get that many clients asking for it specifically, it was more me offering it to them.
I bought the 900 and am extremely happy with it. PQ is indistinguishable between the two. And as you mentioned the added 1080i, SDI/Firewire, price and better viewfinder (Doesn’t bloom like the early Varicams).

Does the shot move (Pan, zoom or tilt) If it doesn’t, any easy fix is find a frame of the scene without the mic, freeze it, put it on another layer above, crop down into the bad shot to cover. A quick fix that might work. It depends on if your original footage does have too much moving noise or grain. But you can slowly diz in/out the fix.
I just did this on a shot with a reflection in a picture frame that nobody saw. Worked like a champ.

Thanks for the help. I’ve checked your questions.
All current, OS10.4.8, FCP5.1.2, QT1.1.3 AJA drivers etc.
Check all the system settings and the timeline settings. (Even changed them to see if that would do anything. – nope)
-Set to ‘Best’.
-All Rendered.
-Every frame.Look at the edge of the shelf where the arrow is pointing. See the ailasing on the horizontal edge?
Then it’s smooth with ‘None’.I also see it on the Mac monitor, not just the NTSC monitor, so I know it’s not the AJA adding it. It’s in FCP. I ordered a KONA3 and should have it this week. I’ll see if that solves it.

Monitoring on a high-end, SD NTSC monitor. The 720p footage in the Uncompressed 8 timeline is alising badly. But when I turn off the fields to NONE, it looks perfect. I will try to post a pic to show what it looks like.
