My guess is that Avid “demuxes” the HDV MPEG2 essentially separating the audio and video streams in order to be able to edit it properly…there is probably some other manipulation of it in order to get it into a state it can stuff into MXF.
When you get ready to export this back to tape, it has to re-build a transport stream (M2t) by compressing it again.
Most of the time when working with HDV I capture it HDV and transcode my selects and other good stuff I’ll be using to DNxHD 145, which takes up more space, but works a lot better and faster on the timeline and has better interoperability with other apps (ie. After Effects). If you intend on making clones of your tapes a lot, it might be more time saving (time is money) to buy another deck…hook ’em both up via firewire and clone away in realtime…timecode, CM chip and all. Just did this for some HDV tapes we needed copies of…our HVR-1500 deck even gave step by step directions…

Think he’s just trying to make a dupe of his original tape. Capture to avid then export back out to the deck on another tape… He’d end up having to create a m2t to export back to HDV either way.

You probably remember a plugin called “LensFeed” by Frischluft.com. I think it was primarily for previewing a live video feed for say making sure that the lighting was set right on a greenscreen, etc…
Here’s a link:

Higher shutter speed will reduce the amount of motion blur in fast moving objects.

Get the On2 “Flix” Flash 8 exporter. https://www.on2.com/products/flix/exporter/
You can export directly out of AE and it has an option to preserve the Alpha.
I did a project a couple of years ago that required me to key a couple of hundred small clips of a green screen actor at a certain custom size that would then be comped into a flash piece someone else was building. The Flix exporter worked beautifully…well worth the price.Erik

It will batch capture at whatever resolution you have chosen in the capture tool…unless you have the option set to preserve the resolution of the logged clip…whereas it will capture or attempt to capture at whatever res the clip was logged at.

FLV isn’t one of the supported formats that Avid will import.
Technically, FLV is a delivery format and not intended to be edited/manipulated.
You’re best bet is to either get the original file they made the FLV file from (or get them to output a better quality version in a different format).
If not convert it to a lossless codec like QT animation, to try to preserve as much of the quality as possible.Erik

June 30, 2007 at 6:32 pm in reply to: Xpress Pro Offline to Media Composer HD Online questionsCouldn’t you just copy your project files without the media to a disc, then open the project on the MC? You’ll need to batch capture the footage in your sequence footage anyway for DNxHD 220.

You mentioned earlier that this was captured with a decklink using lower fields…maybe the source was actually upper field first?
As a test, you might capture a little bit of the video using upper field first. Then import into AE (interpret upper) and render it out using upper fields.Erik

June 30, 2007 at 6:19 pm in reply to: Whats the best way to bring in large video clips that you only want to use a little of?I don’t think this would affect render times. You are specifying to AE that you are only using a small portion of the video by trimming the beginning/end, it’s only rendering that small portion to your final product.
