I removed the 2x1GB sticks of ram and the system has “sprung to life”. The waveform redraws for audio are 1000x faster(scientific research through peer reviewed sourcery proves it). I may have to send this ram back or put another 2x1GB sticks so there are two “sets” of memory.

    Thanks guys.
    I will report.

Hey,maybe there should be a sticky with best solutions for Macs.

Well, first off I am running my capture scratch on a single 500GB hard drive(about half full/empty?) OSx and FCP are on the other drive. I have the latest FCP Studio install. I know that a single drive will only support around 30-40 MBsec, but my system was WAY snappier on the dual/2.3Ghz G5.

Now for Ram: I have 2 GB of Apple ram (4×512) in the 1,2 slots on each riser card. I then have 2x1GB sticks in slots 3,4 on riser card 1. Could this be the problem?

I will take out the 2x1GB sticks and see if it runs faster.

Same here. No waveform display-only x’s on the audio timeline. This only happened recently when upgrading either OSX or FCP Studio to the latest versions.

So are you saying that the new Macs are LOUD? Is that internal speaker or does it come through your monitors? Maybe you are having an Audio Units malfunction. I was under the impression that Apples machines no longer complained as much. Now if they also “kick”, I would say get the he ll out of that room!” Be safe!

The hack works fine…enough about that.
The upgrade is only $200! You get Motion and DVD Studio Pro…enough about that!
but the hack is simple and cost effective. Just copy some files here, remove a few files there…viola! it works!

Lets hope it is something stupid like hardware/software incompatibilities! I recently ordered a new Dual 2.3 so we’ll check it out together. Just goes to show ya- Never trust a guy in a turtleneck!

Thanks for the reply Steve. I DO want to IGNORE the alphs- it contains the sky. In 3D programs the sky is usually created in a dome fasion and the resulting files can either be knocked out for a different or better sky(skies take a while to render) or they the alpha can be ignored to keep the rendered sky in place. I have found the solution! In PPro you have to add the Video filter Alpha Adjust and click on Ignore Alpha in the effects control list. Wierd it does not work in the interpret fooyage command. A bug methinks!
Anyway- Alpha Adjust is the answer.

Upon further investigation, it appears it does work-one frame at a time. How do I get all of my images in an image sequence? I can only see the poster frame with an ignored alpha.

Try AE 6.5 PRO. It comes with Color Finesse which color corrects in float!

I accept your challenge. I will try to find a DP 2.7! Wow, such soothing words you have Jeremy. Are you a Yogi? Most people take offense at my remarks because they are so crass and usually unfounded. Your words have changed the course of my life and I am now indebted to you. I will send you the first of my litter of crows. You will know that the crow has been delivered when you hear the “caw!caw!” outside your window while you are trying to ADR. I am calm now. I guess paying $700 for FCP Studio is better than having my car burned in France.
