Premiere is worse the FCP in transitions because….
You can’t save.
Custom wipe does not remember where the gradient came from.
Very few that can go on the end of a super(PC has Spicemaster, Mac does not have this option(closed API?)).
The transition suffering list can go on forever.I almost ALWAYS export a Master HD file. You can then make 20 different flavors of export in Media Encoder or Compressor(export two different sizes of h264, mpeg2 and a quicktime in the same batch). Without the high res Master file you would have to render out of Premiere multiple times for all of those different formats and that, my friend, would take forever.

Your going to first export to a codec like DNXHD or Cineform correct? Then encode the DVD with Media Encoder, right?

Yep, Premiere is a GREAT cutter of imported formats.
Exporting…not so much.
I’m with Tom in that I am curious of your export times. Very curious…
I may try to develop a workflow with Premiere Pro straight cuts, EDL export to FCP and finish up there. Not sure if it will be of benefit though. I do a lot of supers and Premiere is the worst at transitions for supers.

[John-Michael Seng-Wheeler] “You should make a feature request:”
Please don’t use this “line” anymore. Adobe knows what they are doing, so do all the software companies. Give a bunch of new features, remove some important features, keep an upgrade cycle going, we know the drill, it’s sad. This has been requested for over 15 years. Goes waaaayyyyy back to the beginnings of Premiere in the 90’s.

This has been a request for over 10 years! Actually more like 15 years…
Adobe will NOT do it, why should they, users would not but After Effects as much if Premiere did these things.
Unfortunately Adobe and Avid has us, FCP is EOL unless you want FCPX (possibly a “gift” from Apple).

This is some inside information I just got.
Truth be told, it will be neither “boy” nor “girl” but a true hermaphrodite! Imagine that, everything you always wanted in one. It’s a Christmas miracle!CrippleBook Pro 2.3Ghz i7, 8GB ram, SLeopard 10.6.8, FCPStudio 3, QT 7

I have heard that Adobe will be implementing:
Audio tracks will work like a regular NLE, ability to export to OMF easily, better FX implementation for single and track audio.Transitions galore! Single sided transitions will finally be addressed after over 15 years of user requests! Excellent work on this one Adobe, Thank You.
Macs will have all the features and benefits of PeeCees including Ati video card support(AMD now).
Adobe releases coding that is critical for plug in developers(finally) although at the risk of alienating some After Effects purchases(FX Plug-like).
Sync playhead through PSD files.
Markers retain playhead sych through layers.
They also address all the things I forgot that are important to me in this forward looking software. I know it’s true, I know it’s true….

January 28, 2012 at 2:21 pm in reply to: Moving transitions from Source window to timlineYeah, transitions are a major weak point in Premiere as far back as I can remember.
I think on the PC Pixelan offers some solutions. I am on a Mac and suffer for my decision.

Avid is supposedly phasing out compatibility with their “low end” products. Media Composer will not open in DS anymore, or something like that. FCP – killed. Shake – killed. Pinnacle products – killed. Targa real time editing card with everything we could have wanted(not “upgraded” to HD)- killed. That Targa 3000 card had the horsepower ten years ago that our systems still do not have today. But I digress, with wallet waiting for Adobe to ad what I want and then strip away the features that are most important(midi in Audition anyone?).
