  • Moving transitions from Source window to timline

I think I already know the answer but it’s worth asking anyway. Is there current functionality that allows moving a transition from the source window to the timeline? Let’s say I have a transition that I have applied between clips.

In order to adjust the transition parameters I then have to click on the transition to open it up in the source window. OK, so now I have a transition that I have tweaked to my liking and I want to apply it to another cut in my timeline.

That’s where I am stuck, I can’t drag the modified transition to another point on my timeline and I cant save the modified transition as a preset.

Does anyone have any helpful ideas?

What version of PPro? Did you try copying and pasting it?
Copy your transition, move play head to the cut where you want the next transition and paste. Make sure your video track is active (highlighted).

I am using CS5.5. Yes, cutting and pasting works and is very useful for multiplying the transition one cut at a time instead of a group of clips, but, the transition will have to be built every time I want to use it in future projects.

It’s not the end of the world and I have a feeling that CS6 will address a lot of shortcomings of the current build

Yes, I see what you mean. If I remember correctly, in very old versions you could select a bunch of clips and just paste it and will paste the transition on all the cuts (Or was it wishful thinking even back then). But in successive versions they always remove a couple of such conveniences in the name of… I dunno what. Me too am waiting eagerly for CS6, but I hope it doesn’t upset me like CS4 did. CS5 works fine but CS4 was a nightmare.

Yeah, transitions are a major weak point in Premiere as far back as I can remember.

I think on the PC Pixelan offers some solutions. I am on a Mac and suffer for my decision.
