Say you have 30 layered PSD’s for some boilerplate “ups”. Click,Click,Click,Click,Click,Click,Click,Click,Click,Click,Click,Click,Click,Click,Click,Click,Click or something like that. FCP just imports the whole folder and makes sequences of them all. I think this and the API for transitions should be fixed. Yes, I have put in for my ideas. Adobe probably threw them out for the prevalence of so much vernacular.

Ever try doing TMZ or ET type transitions in Premiere. Forget it. Just no single sided overlay type transitions.

Half of me thinks the whole whole industry is colluded, they are stripping away the pro-like aps from us, leaving only top-tier $$$(flint, flame, smoke) and weird stuff that has clunky, non standard interfaces and stripped down, wonky features(Premiere, new FCP, new Avid). YMMV.

Are the Red transitions “inside” the Red environment?

That was one of my problems with Red, the environment and “containers”. Containers are sort of like precomps in After Effects.

I just flip flop between soooo many programs that I do not need to assimilate another interface.

Why are there no transition packages for Premiere Pro? Anyone know?

The thing is, I already own Red, been selling it cheap in the for sale section of the Cow for years. I own Continuum as well. Neither play particularly well with Adobe, many render errors. I fear that Premiere just doesn’t support a good way for developers to write plugs(that may invite people NOT to buy After Effects). Also, many of the cool effects that Boris has, the main reason for getting their products, do not work with premiere or After Effects, BCS plugs in particular. The BCS keyer is great but we can not use it in Adobe land.

Boris works A LOT better with FCP. I mean Boris Titler installs with the FCP suite.

These are cool, but still no wipes on Mac for Premiere-sort-of-Pro.

Hi Tim,
Tell me how you like spotting a layered PSD file. Bring in the PSD as a super in a sequence. Now mark the PSD to the dialog, now open the PSD in the browser, now open the the PSD layers to the browser, ooops where should you begin your animation???? By writing down timecode and then re-re-opening the layers again and manually moving the timeline indicator to the correct spot. In all it only takes an extra 5-6 clicks over FCP. If you can get my layered PSD to spot in a click, well I don’t know what I’ll get you but it will be better than the Brooklyn Bridge.

FCP, spot the layered PSD, command click, boom your in spotted to the exact correct place.

How about single click Extend Edits? Not in Premiere.

I love the instant playback of codecs in Premiere. How ’bout you?

I am getting the same, Premiere seems to feel worse the more I use it. ie, there are sooo many workarounds compared to FCP(spotting PSD files is a major headache, Boris Continuum flakiness, cr*ppy transitions etc…). Can we get a decent gradient wipe that has angle control, softness and remembers where the gradient originally came from, or at least set a default that stays default??? Geez I could use that for just about anything.

Now Adobe wants us to pony up $$$ before CS6! I am on track with my Production Suite but will probably NOT upgrade my CS3 Master Collection.

If Apple were to re-release the real 64bit FCP I would probably go back with my tail between my legs, update plugins etc.
Apple will probably do just that(re-release a 64bit FCP), but they will most likely want us to buy a new desktop model. They will backward compatible-cripple the software.

Just ranting, I do like instantly editing without transcoding but HATE the insanely long render times…I need my meds…

I’m in the Long Render Camp.
Last movie was 1 hour 28 min. Many cuts and CC. FCP exported rather quickly.
I am trying to switch to Premiere. The same style of cutting and CC in Premiere results in an unbelievably long render process. Has me thinking of Lightworks or Avid now.

Doesn’t transcoding into a usable codec (from AVCHD-Prores) involve a generation loss anyway? That is how we would do it in FCP.

Figured it out.

To make custom previews:
Choose New Sequence, Custom, then you may choose PreRes 422 as preview files.

Anyone else doing this?

Did you get a BluRay burn speed yet? I just got the replacement drive from Videoguys…no dice exactly the same, not recognized over the eSata port and only 1x burn speed.
