The tape out on the 302 is a 2 channel unbalanced output. So what ever is on channel one in the 302 will appear on channel 1 (L) in the tape out, same for channel 2 (R).
Be aware that the mix out on the 302 is at -10 pro-sumer level-vs-the “0” line level (.775vac) from the XLR outputs on the 302.
All that means is that you’ll have to turn up the input gain on the recorder a bit more. The cable that you want will run about $45 including shipping. Call me at: 954-255-7628

If your cables are taking a beating because of carelessness then it’s up to you to have a talk with those people and to hold them responsible for the repair or replacement costs. There is no excuse for that kind of irresponsibility. Since you seem to be on a limited budget I would suggest you learn to repair the cables yourself.

I’ve got a DR40 that I feed from a Sound Devices 442. The DR40 line in will accept both an unbalanced or balanced input. I would suggest feeding your DR40 from the TA3 2 channel unbalanced mixout connection on the 302 to 2x 1/4″ mono tip, sleeve unbalanced plugs. Doing it that way leaves the 302 XLR’s for feeding another camera, recorder whatever.

You’re talking serious money for a reliable wireless com system. For about $5-600 a set there’s the Sennheiser G3 system or for even more $$$ check out https://www.comtek.com. Then you’ll still need headsets for each person. I would suggest going to https://www.markertek.com and look for headsets, you’ll find everything you need there.

I don’t know much about the Rode video mic but I’m sure it will do the job it was designed for. I’ve gotten vey nice acceptable sound from a 5d. It’s all a matter of setting the levels on the 5d. The 5d preamps are not the best so if you keep the 5d peaks at about -12 on the meters you should be fine.

That’s because they are not full attenuators only trims with in a range. A big design mistake on Tascams part if you ask me. I wonder how they can justify that?

For less than the $272 Sony repair quote you can buy any number of good sounding new lavalier mics with new warrentys.

If ambient set noise is a major issue then consider an automatic mic mixer that will open and close the active/non active mics as required. OTOH controlling set noise should be your number one priority. Remember it’s not a sound problem, it’s a location problem.
