Equipment needed to allow sound person and assistant to talk via headphones
We are a new (ie inexperienced and ignorant) wedding video company. We are fortunate to have a reasonably good equipment budget.
One person has a field mixer (SD 664) with a boom mic and a few radio lavs. This person, obviously, wears a set of cans to monitor the boom/lav audio.
Another person, perhaps a couple hundred feet away at most, wears a set of cans to monitor the audio from the camera they are operating. The camera audio is needed only for syncing video and audio. Audio recorded on the camera is not used for the final project.
Question:
What equipment is needed to allow both people to monitor their respective audio sources, and at the same time, allow them to talk to each other via radio? Specific make/model recommendations would be appreciated. Again, we are neophytes, so please describe all components necessary for a working solution.

I have used standard ‘Walkie Talkie’s’ for the a similar situation, just use a iPod ear piece or similar plugged into the radio, place it inside one of the headphone cups before you put them on your head….. seemed to work well.

You’re talking serious money for a reliable wireless com system. For about $5-600 a set there’s the Sennheiser G3 system or for even more $$$ check out https://www.comtek.com. Then you’ll still need headsets for each person. I would suggest going to https://www.markertek.com and look for headsets, you’ll find everything you need there.

Thank you Eric… we have happen to have two sets of G3’s that are not being used.
What headset (with mic on gooseneck) would you recommend? We are partial to the Sennheiser headsets but would like any recommendations.
For the headsets does it make sense to run one channel for communication and one channel for audio monitoring? Do headsets like these terminate in two (one for listening, one for talking) 3.5mm connectors? If not, what do we need to connect our headsets to our G3’s (via the camera or mixer)?
