With the intro of the 688 the used market is becoming loaded with 664’s at about $3500. The 688 is mechanically a 664 w/o some extra features. If you don’t need the SL6 option then a used 664 is a great buy.

The TA3 mix out is a 2 channel summed (mono) mix from the 302. Wire the feed from the 302 to your wireless transmitter with both pins 2 & 3 of the TA3 connected to your transmitters microphone input connector. Be aware that the mix out is a line level feed and could be to hot for a mic level input. Some transmitters will allow switching the tx mic input to line level by connecting the incoming audio feed to a different pin in the tx connector.

The best way to set G3 levels is to set both the transmitter & receiver levels to -20db. The level on your camera should be at least -20 with peaks about -10. You may have to increase or decrease the transmitter level depending if you have a loud or soft spoken person being recorded.

I don’t know where your tx & rx level settings are but you should set them both at -18 to start with and adjust from there. Your camera audio levels should average about -10 as a good mid level point between -20 & “0” all dbfs.

What needs to be done is to “Worldize” the tracks by playing them back on a good speaker system in a quiet setting and re-record the sound from the speaker at a distance that gives you the perspective that works for the shot.

You could use a wireless system to feed audio to the camera from the 702t and use that camera track as your scratch sync track. It might be possible to feed the TC from the 702T to the camera if it has a dedicated TC in connection. A Sennheiser G3 wireless system would do the wireless link perfectly, figure about $600 for the G3.

I can replace the antennas and perhaps repair the input connector block. Beyond that I don’t attempt. Unless you can find a wireless tech for your G2’s I’m afraid you’re looking at serious money for a new G3 system.

You need to understand that I come from the old school where a recorder was only a recorder and a mixer was only a mixer and they were connected by XLR cables. If the 788t will do everything you need it to do for you then that’s what you should buy.
OTOH look at what the Nomad offers, such as “Never Clip”, Zaxnet and 6 real XLR inputs and think if any of those features will make your job easier. You should also look at the Sound Devices 664 or the smaller 633 before you put your money down on any one unit.
