The beeps are at the head of the track at the same tempo as the track itself. The track would start where 5 would be if you were counting in tempo.

The HFI 580 is the one you want. Here’s an excerpt of a review on the 580:
“HFI-580: OK, here’s where we’re excited! You see, many of the spendier offerings from Sennheiser and AKG didn’t impress us as being much, if any, better than the HD280Pro? But right off the bat, the Ultrasone HFI-580 is catching our ear. Better detail than the Senn in the mids and highs. Fuller sound. And even a fuller bass that doesn’t take away from the detail of the mid’s and highs! The headphone looks nice. Seems well built. Is easily driven, (maybe our favorite headphone directly from our Classic iPod for certain types of upbeat music?). The Sony 7506 has hyped frequency response and closes off any room you’re in so you don’t get an accurate aural picture of your surroundings. I would strongly suggest the Ultrasone HFI 680 as your best choice. They do take a bit of getting used to but they will give a true picture of what you’re recording.

The “B” in Countryman B3 & B6 lavs stand for “Broadway”. Hair mounting is called a Broadway mount. Advantages are talent is never off mic and it sounds like a boom mic.

The pre-amps in the Zoom 5 & 6 are more than adequate for the job at hand. Knowing how to set your gain staging will result in great tracks. As an aside the new Zoom F8 has pre-amps that are equal to Sound Devices. An amazing achievement by Zoom.

The DPA line of lavs are the new lav du jour for feature film work. Intercuts ideally with the Schoeps and DPA boom mics. Be warned, these are the top shelf in price for mics.

Are you sure the OST and the Tram are wired correctly for your Sony recorder? The OST is a 3 wire lav and one of the 2 signal wires has to get connected to the sleeve along with the ground wire.

If you have a dynamic microphone and a stereo receiver with phono level inputs you can connect the mic to the phono input and it will work just fine.

The input connector is not a Hirose, it’s a standard 3.5mm TRS locking connector. Wire the lav to a male 3.5mm TRS locking connector as follows. ground & black to the sleeve/ground. White to the ring (yes to the ring not the tip)and all should be fine.
