You’re just going to have to drop it into your compression software, crop, and export out a new mp4. It isn’t possible to crop and do a simple “save as”; it’s going to have to be recompressed.

This isn’t related to your question per say but in regards to FCPX to Pro Tools, there is a tutorial on Lynda that is just for that. I know it’s too late for your current project, but maybe in the future it will help.

No, Handbrake doen’t have frame control capabilities, but it does have presets for Apple Devices and uses the x264 codec, which is superior to Apple’s version of H264. It will make a great looking file from ProRes HQ.

As William Car says, [William Carr] ” their thoughtful recommendation is to make a 1280×720 h264 at about 5Mbps. Why not just try that from your ProRes using Compressor or Streamclip or AUNsoft or whatever and upload to Vimeo with privacy on and see how it looks. It will probably look great.”

Try using Handbrake with the self-contained QT movie, see if you still get it.

Is your source footage H.264?

PC and Mac can play back H264 so you should be safe with your settings in Handbrake.

Oh got it. I would go back to the original DVCPRO clips and when you transcode to ProRes LT, add reverse telecine in Compressor.

Eric, I know you’re just a student organization, but sounds like you’re well established and have some funds. You might want to look into an Apple Value Added Reseller or some sort of company that consults on workflows and shared storage environments. Touche, I definitely agree, just didn’t sound like Troy was too familiar with codecs and what not so I didn’t want to confuse him.
