I suggest you download REDCINE software first and do first light on the R3Ds.

Might not help but with my past workflow, I would render out the Avid AAF into numbered folder.
Then copy an Avid MDB/PMR from a working folder into that new MXF folder.
Once I open Avid the database updates.
Next step is I grab the MDB file and drag into a bin.
    Then files populate.
Now this was a fix with FCPX blessed R3D/AutoSync to WAV files.
In the end editors found issues with the AutoSync files off by a few frames on 10 out off possibly 800 clips (I dont believe they checked all of them).
Oliver does this sound like a viable workflow?
For this workflow we only needed to move the FCPX blessed files over to Avid using Resolve 11.

What about from X to 7 then AAF/OMF to Avid?

I dont have the resource to test that today 🙁

I had to dig deep into the Library folder in my OS a few times due to this RED ROCKET install error I was getting.
I wonder if you can that deep to get rid of all RED code and try installing from the start.
For us it was the RED ROCKET install that gave us fits across all the new Mac Pro’s.
Took a few attempts and even had to re-install the OS a few times.
Finally got 6 of em running fine .

At some basic level, Charlie’s on the nose with Resolve 11 Lite or Full.
I had to move huge R3D data from FCPX to Avid MC and used Resolve 11 to AAF option.
Now the things that dont travel all too well are the virtual type clips such as Audio Sync.
It works but at times, things go missing.
Basic edits Im sure will be fine, I can do another test.
Now as far as AUDIO, that will take some testing on my end.

What tells you that its the plug-in?
Take the same R3D clips and play with them in REDCINE.
If your game, export a portion and save as a R3D file and test that one.
Ive been using that option on so many variants of Mac and PC since it was offered and not once did the plug-in cause issues.
Its usually the host NLE or the R3D clips themselves.

January 27, 2015 at 1:36 pm in reply to: FCPX offers what advantages over Premiere?

    Love this post 😉

Of late due to the update on a few Mac Pro’s here to CC 2014, the ability to burn a Blu-Ray has vanished on the Premiere Pro side of things (well Adobe period).

I can do that in FCPX but not as effective as Encore (love pop-up menus).

    What gives Adobe?

I have to re-install CS 6 to get it back now.

And when I try finding it online, it kicks me to install Premiere Pro CC 2014 which does not have any options to Encore?

January 23, 2015 at 7:35 pm in reply to: External video monitor w/ new Mac Pro

Just got a hold of a Sony PVM X300 for demo.

Ive been wanting to test a 4K display from an UltraStudio 4K.

Great luck with FCPX and Resolve with both HD-SDI and HDMI at UHD res.

REDCINE not so much, just crashes.

It does work via Rocket not sure why it craps out through UltraStudio.

    Now my real problem.

I cant get this to work with Premiere Pro CC 2014.

Ive updated the DesktopVideo to 10.3.5 (latest) and everything else works except for Premiere?

Ive set the BMD as Playback in Prefs and turned everything on that was working before updating to CC.

Last known Video Output for us with Premiere was CS6 and DeckLink Extreme.

January 23, 2015 at 2:17 pm in reply to: Huge favour to ask

I would like to give a detailed answer but honestly, my experience working with over 800 R3D and equal amount of WAV files from a 744T prove to me and most of my colleagues that FCPX is more than capable at handling heavy data.
Now 10 minutes R3D to transcode/render is pretty tiny compared to what Im used too.
I did that on a Mac Pro 2012 and wished I had done it on the D700s at work.
Your gear list is more than capable for what you want to do.
The above workflow I did with original footage residing on a SAS>GTECH eSPro 12TB system. And used another esPro 8TB as backup.
I did a fair amount of testing with FCPX to Avid (final NLE destination) by adding Resolve 11 in the middle.
There was some hiccups but I got the files over and no issues.
Now as far as Proxies and Optimize goes, I dont use this option as much as I should.
For some reason Ive been living on the edge with the R3Ds untouched.
Now of course I had to give it a go but I did this with a different movie I worked on.
It was only about 200 R3D clips (short short) and so far the editor (Director/Writer) is loving the Proxy route on his 2012 iMac.
He is using a LaCie Thunderbolt drive.
Once he’s done, I will get it all back to R3D level and send to Resolve.
    Crossing fingers 🙂

I dont believe there is anyway of doing 10bit right out of the nMP.
Only through external devices such as UltraStudio4K which Im about to find out today with a demo Sony PVM X300.
    Crossing fingers.
It will be tested via Avid, FCPX, Premiere and Resolve.
