red workflow plugin crashing fcpx
Hi all – has anyone else experienced constant crashes when working with the red workflow plugin v4.2 and FCPX 10.1.4?
Our OS is on version 10.9.4 which might complicate things – our mac is a new mac pro 6 core, D700s, 32GB ram….
If it is a simple update to Yosemite – I’ll get on with that now?
At the moment I’m unable to view anything in the timeline. Media can be imported, but FCPX crashes once you add media to a timeline and try to play…..

I just finished and color corrected a red raw project in fcpx with stellar results.
No crashing and everything went very smoothly.
I was on 10.9.5, though and have 64GBs of Ram. Are you trying to playback r3d?
Can you play the footage back in red cine x?
Do you have any other videos devices, such as an Aja or decklink device that might need updating?

What tells you that its the plug-in?
Take the same R3D clips and play with them in REDCINE.
If your game, export a portion and save as a R3D file and test that one.
Ive been using that option on so many variants of Mac and PC since it was offered and not once did the plug-in cause issues.
Its usually the host NLE or the R3D clips themselves. -
The crash log says it is the plugin.
I can’t import any raw r3d files into FCPX without a crash.
Red files playback fine in resolve, premiere CC and RedCine X and Red Player….
Really stumped here – tech support from apple and red can’t seem to solve it either.

I also have the latest drivers for the ultra studio 4K.
Slightly better results when using shorter clips direct from the boot drive, but that isn’t an option for us.

What else is connected to your system?
Have you tried to trash FCPX prefs, reinstall the R3D plugin, and try again?

I can try trashing preferences. Will report back.

Nope that made no difference. Immediate crash when trying to playback the footage on the timeline.
Crashlogs point to the red plugin so tried re-installing multiple times but no difference.

I would delete the Cache using the Finder (to ensure a clean cache).
An alternative is to close the current Library, make a new library with brand new settings (media destination, cache, etc) and try again.
Also, turn off A/V Output for now.

Tried trashing preferences, deleting libraries, un-installing red plugin and starting again – nothing has worked thus far…

What 3rd party templates/filters do you have?
Have you updated to 10.9.5 (not yosemite).
