100% agree with Aindreas on this one. This automatic anticipatory behavior just gets in the way. I’m ALWAYS moving clips or groupings temporarily to the end of the timeline, using this as a scratchpad, or temporary storage area. If FCP-X creates slugs in my gaps, that would be totally stupid.

Here’s another expression: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

If you shot 24P (and maybe 30P) on the camera, the Sony deck is not going to play that footage back. You will have to use the original camera to capture from, or find a deck with Canon 24P playback capabilities.

Why transcode when you can edit natively – especially if you have a CS5 system with GPU acceleration, which will give you real time high quality scaling. If you have to render, Adobe’s MPEG2 I frame render codec is very good quality. If your software predates CS4, you could try using DVCPRO HD as your render codec; also very good quality.

You can’t export AVCHD from Premiere. It is an acquisition format only. I’m not familiar with the Cineform software, but I don’t believe that will convert to AVCHD either. Is your intent to play the footage back from the camera? How about converting to Blu Ray 3D format for playback? I think that is the accepted playback method, unless you want to use a computer with a 3D capable capture card (Aja Kona 3 or LHi).

    Need more information:
    – source footage format(s)
    – project (sequence) format
    – export format
    – Premiere version
    – computer spec’s including drive configuration

At what point in the process does the problem appear?

I’d edit with a 720P60 sequence. Downconversion should simply be a matter of resizing, since 1080P 29.97 simply repeats every frame when converting to 720P60 (actually 59.94). You could also edit in 720P30, but 720P60 is the broadcast standard, and you would be dropping frames from your 720P60 source material, which could add some flicker to that source. (This would be less evident on the 1080P30 material due to more motion blur when shot with a 30 frame shutter).

They actualy label the pan-zoom effect the “Ken Burns” effect in FCP-X? Very tacky. Why don’t they just come out and say “This is a toy”.

You may have a Matrox box? If so, try this:

“Adobe Encore may crash when you use the application for the first time after installing Matrox Mtx.utils. If this happens, turn off User Account Control
(UAC), then restart Adobe Encore. When you quit Adobe Encore, you can turn UAC back on. For details on how to turn UAC on or off, see your Windows documentation. (Ref# 54385)”
