    Hi there…

I seem to be having trouble capturing and displaying HD footage from my Canon XHA1 and Sony HDV deck in CS5 in the Capture pane.

I have no trouble with either when the capture settings are in DV, or the XHA1 is set to downconvert.

When I set the capture setting to HDV both devices are on-line and recognized by the system and program…and I can control them…but no display in the preview pane…and no timecode running when trying to play back/record/capture.

    Any suggestions??

    Thanks

Thanks for the reply…yeah I’ve been reading that. I’ve gone through the first 7 of 8 steps with no luck. Will try Step 8 shortly…

I have a A1 and no trouble capturing.
Make sure everything is set to hdv and not auto.
If you change settings to the camera, disconnect from pc first.
NEVER hook the camera to the pc when the camera is on.
Connect camera first, put camera on wait until windows finds the camera. Select Premiere and fire up.

Yeah thats what I usually do…and have no trouble when the cam is set to downconvert, and the Capture settings is set to DV as opposed to HDV. I’ve downloaded HD with this camera and my old system…but got a new system and windows 7 fairly recently and have only been able to do sd downloads/capture. I can impot and edit with HDV…just can’t capture for some reason.

Did step 8 still no luck

Are your capture settings set to HDV in the capture window?

Yeah…and I can control the camera with the controls in the capture window just no preview and when I press play there is no timecode displayed…works as it should when I switch the capture setting back to DV.

You do not have preview in the capture window when capturing hdv.
The capture window should be blue with text saying: playing on videohardware when capturing.

Thanks again for the quick response! Much appreciated!

Yeah I recall that with my old system, but all I have is a Black screen in the capture window.

OK, Running out of ideas. Last one:
    Set firewire driver to legacy.

Yeah did that…that was one of the seven steps. Also I should clarify…that when capture settings are set to hdv the capture window does say “device off line” but I can still control the camera…just doesn’t seem to read the video data.
