Hello Jeff,
Thanks for the input. I ended up contacting Apple on this one.
The main reason being that it worked (using same settings) on Compressor 3.Apple ended up having me try using a straight Youtube template from Compressor 4.
This took about 10 or 11 minutes, and compressed my ProRes 422 QT file (4 GB) down
to around 700 MB. Apple seemed to think this was “normal”. Compressor 3 took about the
same length of time, but did about 300 mb.I compared the settings of the stock YouTube template in Compressor 4 to my droplet settings.
I did have frame controls enabled, but with minor changes. I also set the file for fast streaming.I revised my droplet settings, taking the frame controls out of the equation. This resulted in
a processing time of about 10 to 11 minutes and a file size of 340 MB. All this is interesting I suppose, but (BUT) the same droplet compressed similar files in the 10 minute or less (depending on length of video) in Compressor 4 before I took the system in to Apple for repair.I was using FCP 7 for some of these file, not FCP X – perhaps there is a difference there.
I did get the file up to youtube – so at least things are working.
Thanks Again,
Eric

Perhaps someone else will see this.
I did a test using Compressor 3.x (the FCS 3 version) and the QT video compressed for
youtube in 10 minutes! The same file took (no lie) 2 hours in version 4.Thanks All,

Hello,
Thanks for the reminder! I should have thought of the scale parameter!
Thanks,Eric

Hello Michael,
Thanks for reply – still have a big problem with compressor.
the job is submitted to “This Computer”, not sure how that relates to
using the “cores”, which I would think would be automatic. One point, I have the old version of Compressor (ver. 3), and the job completes in
10 minutes!!! So there definitely is some sort of issue with Compressor 4.0.3 on my
system.I will contact apple next. If there is a special way to submit a compressor job
such that it uses all the processors I would be interested to know that one! Thanks,

Thanks for the info on this. I guess I will have to do it (next time) with compressor,
or the compound clip method. Thanks for boosting my beginning knowledge with FCP X.Eric

Hello Russ,
It is nice I am on the right track. I did see the FCP log and transfer info by Shane Ross (Creative Cow, thank you very much!).Using Compressor 4
I selected the DVCPRO HD codec, 720p60/30/24.
My geometry settings are: 960×720 “Custom (16×9)
I had the frames control set to :
Resize Filter: Better (Linear Filter)
Output fields: “Same as Source”
Deinterlace: Better (motion adaptive)
Rate conversion: Better (Motion compensated)Should I set the rate conversion to “Best”?
Thank you for the information

Hello John,
This is not a trivial task, but doable in AE or Apple motion. I am working on just such a project, and
have it working up to a point. I have a problem with layer coordinates vs. comp coordinates.
I will not go into to this here, I plan to post on this forum, and hopefully get an answer. On you your question. You will need to create a comp, or several comps. Also you will need several layers,
I will guess at these: you will need an audio layer, a basic map layer, with colors you need. You can start
with Photoshop, and work up the map, and create layers in photoshop for flags, same country but different color, etc. Then you can import this into AE, and set keyframes to turn on (or off) county colors, maps, etc. This is just a quick summary of a typical workflow for a project like this. I have a similar project.
I start with a basic map of Germany (this is my project). That is one layer in a Photoshop doc.
then my next layer consists of red shapes (circles) and city names. I can change the opacity of these
objects to make them visible or invisible, etc. Next, I have a black solid layer, with opacity set at about
30 percent. This can be a layer in PS, or a layer added in AE. I create paths on the black solid layer,
which are displayed by a stroke (like painting). That is a quick explanation. It does take some experience with AE to develop this. The learning curve can be steep (it is for me). I am 90 percent of where I want to be, but have not yet figured out how
to deal with my paths, positions, and objects.keep at it.

October 11, 2011 at 2:14 am in reply to: Why does a bezier curve sometimes paste as a mask, other times as keyframes?Hello,
Do you mean “Select the XY coordinates in Particular an paste.” or
Select the XY coordinates in Position and paste?
I am having a similar challenge with layer coordinates and comp coordinates.
I have created a mask path – which follows the coordinates I like (not sure if it is comp coordinates or
layer coordinates!) When I copy this path, and paste it into the position of my object, a ball, the
path (?) is offset from the place where I would like the path for the ball to be.I want the ball to follow several linear paths, from point a, to b, to c, to d, etc. I want the ball to
stop at a point, wait, and then continue, following the next path to the next point.I have masks on a layer that I want the ball to follow. I have been trying to copy the mask a path at a time. As soon as I paste the second path into the position layer of the ball, it blows all the previous
coordinates, and moves them all away from what I would like to be the origin.I must be missing something, as I see this done all the time in Apple Motion, and even After Effects.
any ideas or tips on this??

Hello Ben,
This answer really helps. I have been using AE, but for relatively simple things, like image movement,
and opacity changes, etc.Your tip on keyframing put me on the correct path (ha!!).
Thanks,
