Does anyone know if the tracker from AE 7 is any better than the one in 6.5?
Thanks,
Eric

Hi Dave,
I checked the footage as you suggested, but get changes only every other step implying 24 fps.

Hi Dave,
[Hmmmm…. it sounds to me like you still have two fields for each frame. Did you specifically tell the tracker, “don’t track fields, track the frame”?
And if your comp is indeed at 23.976, how is AE creating two keyframes for each frame of video?
Something’s fishy… and I think it’s your footage. How did you go about converting the 29.97 footage to 23.976?]
The footage is now definitely 23.976. I converted it using Algosuite (an AE plugin). AE sees the footage as 23.976 as does QT if I open the footage in a QT viewer.
When tracking, I did not check “Track Fields”, but when I apply the data to the layer, it shows a second key frame that I can’t access without doubling the frame rate. This is odd. But, I’m not sure that it’s the cause of the jumpiness. Looking at the position graph for keyframes, the two keyframes for each frame have the same value. The unwanted position shifts are occuring between frames.

Hi,
I’ve worked on a number of presentations where we used multiple synced computers to playback up to six 1920X1080 projections. We worked with an AV place that had a system that automatically synced the computers. We created a single large presentation, this was later divided for each of the computers to playback. It worked perfectly and you couldn’t even see where the different screens joined each other. We used Blackmagic codec for these projects.
Also, I’ve been working with a really incredible codec for a feature I’m doing a lot of AE work on. It’s called Cineform. The plus size is that it supports a horizontal of up to 2000 lines. It will support twice that in the near future. The quality is absolutely flawless. You can’t discern the difference between Cineform and uncompressed QT, but depending on your settings, the Cineform will be up to 1/15th the size of the uncompressed file. You can edit HD off a single Firewire 800 drive. This is absolutely true, we’ve tested it extensively. The downside right now is that it’s only available on PC. They’re working on the Mac version; it should be out in about two to three months. But this might be the perfect codec for your project.

Hi Dave,
I’m working with 720X480 .9 pixel size. Actually the mattes are coming up slightly off horizontally and vertically. But once I line them up, they fit without any other adjustments.

Thanks,
I tried what you suggested, but only the keyframe unter the CTI changed. I’m working in AE 6.5. Does this work in 6.5?
Thanks,

Hi it turns out that AE scales the mask according to the new layer size. So, I don’t need to scale it. However,
the mask isn’t positioned correctly. So, is there a way to globally change the position of the mask for all key frames? Thanks,

Bob,
Thanks for your thoughts. Isn’t there a limitation on the stage size to 720X486?

October 30, 2006 at 9:42 pm in reply to: Putting effects in the background like explosionsI’m using PI on film for explosions, etc. A lot of shots that should have been shot against green screen weren’t, so I’ve been rotoscoping foreground
objects and people to allow the explosions to appear behind them. I’ve been using AE, but you can do this in any compositing program.Eric

Hi RenderNYC,
Dragging the clips to the render queue gives me the clips with correct clip name, but I’m looking for an
automated way of getting the in and out timecode from the time line for each clip rather than having to enter the times manually. To explain further – I have almost two thousand clips that I have to render as clips with
specific names. I’m trying to see if there is some way to take the timecode information from the comp and get it into the correct clip in the render cue and do the same with each clip name. Thanks,
Eric
