Putting effects in the background like explosions
Hello there
I was wondering if there is anyway to put explosions in the background or fire. So say if i were to walk past a fire, I would want the fire to dissapear behind me. I want to be running outy of a building and I want the explosion to get closer towards me in the background, the explosion will then carry me forward towards the screen. I have made the explosion smaller and zomming it etc, but it still doesnt look as if it is in the background.
If anyone can help me, I would be very grateful. Thank you.

You can use Blocker objects to do this, which you can make by clicking the blue button on the top toolbar. They allow you to trace over a part of your background image and make it visible over the top of particles.

ideally, you should film yourself in front of a green screen. ANd once you do that, key out the green background in a program like After Effects or an NLE, and then you can easily drop anything behind you.

I’m using PI on film for explosions, etc. A lot of shots that should have been shot against green screen weren’t, so I’ve been rotoscoping foreground
objects and people to allow the explosions to appear behind them. I’ve been using AE, but you can do this in any compositing program.Eric
