The update to PPro CS3 that allows the use of .mxf files from P2 cards should be out very soon…sometime this month is what I’ve heard.

It has an Auto-compose feaure with a bunch of music selections to choice from, but I’m not sure it’s really designed for using loops….

I thought about switching over to Mac for CS3, but I went with an HP 8400 workstation and it’s a great computer. It’s not quite as fast processor-wise as the Mac Dual Quad (3 GHz vs. 2GHZ), but it really does fly. And it was cheaper then the Mac – which is always nice. I’ve had little to no problems running PPro, AE, Soundbooth and/or Photoshop all the same time, moving and updating files…
My advice – do some homework before you buy…

Yeah…I checked the footage in PPro in a 23.976 timeline…
It was shot with a Z1U, but not in 24 Cineframe mode, it was shot 29.97, and it didn’t have the pulldown added…

I thought about switching to Mac when it was announced that CS3 would be Mac and Windows. After doing a lot of thinking, talking to people, and shopping, I stuck with Windows.
My reason for thinking about switching was so that I could work more with clients that used FCP (and have a system with both). But I soon realized 2 things: 1) My FCP clients didn’t really care what I edited on – they’re more concerned with what the finished product looked like. And 2) my entire workflow, all my stock footage assests, my media drives,plug-ins, everything was Windows based…to switch would be a huge hassle….
So I bought an HP 8400 workstation with dual Quad-cores instead of the Mac dual Quad core, and I am loving it. I’m soooo glad I bought what I did. Now, my reasons may not hold true for you, but I hope they help you decide like so many people’s input helped me.

What happens when you try and capture? Have you set the capture device to DVX100?

Wow, you sound like the guy from Apple I spoke with at NAB.
I’m not going to take anyhthing away from Final Cut Studio 2. I saw the demos and it has some impressive features. I edit with Final Cut on occassion and it’s a great editing tool.
But for me, I like Adobe’s stuff. I love the level of integration. I love the look and feel of the programs. I won’t list off it’s features – go to the Adobe website and you can see Production Studios great features.
I can edit HD with PPro, so that’s not such a selling point. As for the stuff with Motion and the Smooth Cam stuff, I have After Effects and Dynamic Link. Motion is nice – the new version is real nice in fact, but for me, it’s still no After Effects. And as for Color, again it’s nice, but AE has a great color correction tool, and Red Giant’s new color correction tool looks real interesting.
It’s all about preference. The software is just a tool. I prefer Adobe’s tools. For me, they work the way I like to work. And I feel they work better.

“I will say this, by the looks of things, anyone would be insane to use Premiere over FCP”
I’ll take PPro any day over FCP….and I would reserve judgement on it’s HDV ability until the final version is released.

I had the “end action” on the playlist set to the timeline, not the playlist itself. Once I set it back to the playlist itself, all is well…
