Look under Video Effects – Transitions. There are wipes there that may be what you’re looking for.

Both Quicktime and AVI should over DV codec. The trick is that it has to be a self contained movie. Try using the convert to Quicktime under the export selection – that may help too.

When you export from FCP, make sure you use DV codec. And make sure that you make it a self-contained movie.

Thanks for the feedback…I figured out early on in my tests that this probably wasn’t going to work, and the client was just trying to save money….

Not sure about the first problem, but the second may not be a bug so much as it is just the DVD drive getting up to speed and recognizing the blank DVD you just put it.

November 25, 2006 at 5:03 pm in reply to: Camtasia settings?

I just did an edit with a Camtasia file. We created in Camtasia an AVI file that was 30fps, and used the native codec (Tech Smith) and made the file 720×480.

I then installed the Tech Smith codec onto my edit computer, and I was then able to use the file in PPro. I dropped it on the timeline, and it worked fine.

  • Something I do when creating chapter markers in PPro is to first put down all the chapter markers without numbers. Then click on the first chapter marker, label it 1, then click the “next” button in the chapter marker window. It’ll take you to the next marker, then label it 2, and so on.

It goes pretty quick, and it’s easy to keep track of what number you’re on. You don’t have to even hit “enter” after putting the number in – just click “next”.

I edit with both, and I will always prefer PPro. Both systems are stable for me, but I think a stable PPro is a result of a stable computer. I’ve had my PC crash just as much as the Mac.

FCP and PPro are very similar, so you shouldn’t have that tough a time going from one to the other. I think PPro is far better to work with, and the integration with the other applications make editing easier.

Motion is nice, but it’s no After Effects.

If your only problem is stability, then in my opinion, I’d stick with PPRo, and just upgrade your computer. I use PPro all the time, and it’s rock solid for me. For what it’ll cost you to get a Mac with all the software, you could easily get a new Dell or HP workstation that’s really powerful and keep the software that you have. If you’re not using the current versions of PPro and the rest, I would really recommend upgrading.
