I edit with PPro CS3, and have edited some EX1 footage with the recently released 3.2 update. It works really, really well – just import the footage in and start editing.

Jan…
You might think about removing the Matrox card and trying to edit without it. I don’t have a Matrox card, but I’ve heard some bad things about them.
One thing I’ve learned from talking to people is that in order for the Matrox card to really work great, your system has to meet all the requirements set forth my Matrox. If it doesn’t, rough times are ahead.
I use CS3 all the time, and I very rarely have any trouble with it.
Hope that helps!

I’m using CS3 and not having the crash issues that you are. Can you explain the crashing a bit more…what causes it, or when does it happen?
If 6.5 is doing it, as well as CS3, it could be a hardware issue. I’ve got CS3 running on XP and Vista, and they both work great. What kind of computer do you have?
Apple’s great, as is FCP, but I really like CS3 better. Plus you can get a powerful Windows machine for a lot less then a Mac.

You could try exporting an EDL out of FCP and try importing that into PPro. You’d have to re-capture and re-link the footage, but it should work.

December 17, 2007 at 4:28 am in reply to: How stable is PPro on your system when editing large projects?I edit with PPro CS3 almost everyday, and it’s never let me down. It very rarely crashes, and I’ve found that the whole Production suite is pretty stable.
I’ve cut short projects as well as long projects with it (both SD and HDV), and I never noticed any stability issues in relation to the project size.
I’ve worked on FCP systems that are rock solid, and others that crashed all the time…

It’s done that to me, but only when the I’ve moved files that are used in the AE project.
When Premiere goes to render out your movie file, it builds the movie from all the clips and elements in the timeline, and when it reaches the dynamic link clip, it looks to where all the files are used in that AE comp to build that clip. If one, or more, of those files are unable to be located, you get the color bars.
Are you using an external drive that contains parts, or all, of your AE comp? Try putting your AE project file, and all the files used in it, on the same drive as your Premiere project file. That should fix the problem.

Are you using Dynamic Link, and that is where the color bars are coming up?

October 12, 2007 at 5:13 am in reply to: How’s your Dell or HP NLE machine working out?I got an HP 8400 workstation earlier this year and I am loving it. I’ve been a home-built computer guy for a long time, but decided to give the HP system a try. It’s been great. I’m not sure I’ll ever home-build my edit computer again. It was expensive, but it’s soooo worth it.
