  • Same old Premiere crashes? CS3 questions.

Posted by Todd Roush on February 3, 2008 at 9:43 am

So I downloaded the trial of the new CS3 and I know this will sound crazy to some of you but it looks very similar to 6.5 which I am currently using. I generally work 15-16 hour days so updating my software has not been a necessity nor a top priority. Rubber bands are gone which I miss, looks more like Avid.

Much to my chagrin, Premiere had those same old 2 crashes that it has always had and I tested it on 2 separate computers. Is it Vista?

    1. The super slow 5 minute crash.
    2. The split second now you see it, now you don’t crash.

Anybody else getting this? I’ve had it with every version so seeing it on CS3 is scary. I know that CS3 is kind of a piece work integration because they bought Serious Ultra, etc. How is the integration?

All my friends are pressing me to buy a dual quad core Apple and start living the good life. “It just works.”

Anyoen tried Final Cut Pro? Apple? I do fear change but if I can get away from these glitches it might be worth it.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

    Have a great one.

I’m using CS3 and not having the crash issues that you are. Can you explain the crashing a bit more…what causes it, or when does it happen?

If 6.5 is doing it, as well as CS3, it could be a hardware issue. I’ve got CS3 running on XP and Vista, and they both work great. What kind of computer do you have?

Apple’s great, as is FCP, but I really like CS3 better. Plus you can get a powerful Windows machine for a lot less then a Mac.

Arghhh, the rubber bands, worth a whole post of history… You must be the only one missing those 🙂

Well, I understand, when you are used to something, it can be hard to let go, but thinking back, this was the most awkward thing ever made. Imagine trying to pick a dot the size of a pixel, then try doing that on a 1920×1280 screen, oh and God forbid it gets too close to the edge!

Yet all of that is replaced by real keyframes, and it’s a million times better when you get used to the idea.

For the crash part: What are your system specs?
It could be Vista, although unlikely. The only crashes I’ve seen myself were while importing too many DVCPro HD files, and I guess we’ll have to give Adobe a little more time on that.

Mac users talk about PCs, PC users talk about Mac, it’s an endless debate that has and will go on for decades. Most PP users are still on PCs, so asking a Mac opinion here is gonna go basically one way 🙂

All I can tell you is that with the money I saved building a dual quad PC and Sata system, I was able to buy a couple of nice Prime lenses… We all have priorities.

    Thanks,

It’s good to hear that it’s working, it just scared the hell out of me to see the same old crash.

As far as the use of the rubber bands:

I shoot and edit 3 camera shoots for $2000 ea. so it is critical that that slam through these things like nobody’s business.

The rubber band way of editing allows me to line up 1 hour clips w/o cutting them and blow through manually fading between the best shot.

I would love it if someone could explain how CS3 will do this more efficiently.

    Thanks.

Select your track. Hit Pg up / Pg down to go to the next cut. Hit Ctrl+D to set a fade.
