Just to clarify what I wrote, when you add a default camera (usually 50mm) it frames the scene as it appears in the active camera view. If you’ve resized or moved any 3d layers you may have to adjust the camera you added using the camera tools. Just select the camera in the composition view menu and adjust. This will now be the active camera view.

At the top of your screen in the Help menu choose the help center and you will find all you need to know about anything in AE.

Assuming you haven’t put any cameras in your composition and animated them, you can add a camera layer (a default one should work). The camera will be the same view as the active view, so you will have to adjust the camera so that it frames the scene the way you want it. AE will always render the active camera, which in this case will be the one you added.

Whenever you resize footage the image quality degrades since the original pixels have to be resampled to fit in or spread out over a different frame size. This is more noticeable when you blow up footage than when you make it smaller. You should always do your text resizing in AE before importing it elsewhere.

I have both the books and the TT DVDs and consider both to be invaluable. If you are going to use AE 7 though and are not familiar with the interface, both could be confusing for someone beginning to learn the program. The AE 7 TT videos are good and will get you up and running quickly, but they don’t have the completeness of the 6.5 version, which gives indepth explanations of not only the interface, but most of the plugins, including the CC (Cycore) plugins.

Thank you for responding. When things like this happen I tend to think there is something wrong with my system. Is this a general problem that happens all the time in AE 7, or is it just with the project files in the Total Training videos?

My icons have messed up again, just about all of them are incorrect. Could this be a problem with the Total Training AE 7 project files? Anyone else experience this?

I trashed my AE 7 preferences and repaired permissions and the icons are showing up correctly now.

Thank you, I think I understand now.

  • After going crazy for nearly 2 hours of constant beeping whenever I clicked on anything, usually an icon, I discovered the culprit is the show bubbles option in preferences. I had turned it on to help me learn what the icons represented. What a relief! I thought I might have a virus somewhere.
