Is it possible that the emitter you’re trying to change has more than one particle type? If it does, you’ll have to make your logo active for all the particle types in the emitter.

Is it switching back to pIllusion once you’ve hit OK and exited the Properties window, or while you still have it open? The only reason it should switch back to the previous shape would be if you cancelled out of the Properties, rather than OKed out.

There is no big mystery, it really should be part of the installation when you run the Setup. It’s not even an optional component during the install, at least not on Windows. What operating system are you running? If you look in the folder where pIllusion is installed (not from the start menu, but the actual install directory), is there an icon called pIllusionRender or pIRenderBatch?
If you really can’t find it and running the install again doesn’t fix it, I suggest emailing support(AT)wondertouch.com

You can grab them here.
I think it depends if you want them to look perfect or you want to do them fast. When I first posted my tutorial a few years a back, some people on theforce.net complained that they didn’t look like the movie ones enough. Every After Effects tutorial I’ve seen on sabres takes a lot longer to do since you had to move 4 points around, whereas in pI you save a bit of time only having to move two points around.

The only part of that clip that’s particleIllusion is the bullet holes and smoke as far as I know. Aharon used an Illustrator/After Effects technique to cartoonify everuything, which you can read about here.

A force changes the direction that particles are travelling in. It has to be on the same layer as particles to affect them, and sometimes it helps to increase the Strength.
A deflector is used to deflect particles. Changing an emitter’s Bounce graph determines how much they’ll deflect off the deflector.

Rather than rendering to an AVI, render out to an image format that supports alpha channels (PNG, TIF, or TGA) and enable it in the Output Options. Then when you import them as a clip into Vegas, you won’t have to key anything out. Should give you a much cleaner edge.

The motion of the emitters is really good in those, so if you replace the particle shape used in the smoke emitters with something that has more detail in it, you’ll probably get an explosion closer to what you want.
A few things I did to adjust the 01b nuke:
Duplicated the Smoke Plumes particle type in the left and right free emitters. I then loaded up the August 2006 library, and used the waterflow_new6 shape on those new smokes. That added a bit more detail to the smoke.I also reset the Tint Strength graph to give the explosion more intense colours.

Render as a sequence of TGA images. That will bring up the alpha settings in the Output Options.
