A force changes the direction that particles are travelling in. It has to be on the same layer as particles to affect them, and sometimes it helps to increase the Strength.

A deflector is used to deflect particles. Changing an emitter’s Bounce graph determines how much they’ll deflect off the deflector.

I’d strongly suggest running through the manual. Not becasue we don;t want to help you, but because all the answers are presented there really clearly. Also, for something as simple as that you may have to wait a while for an answer in case one of us wasn’t available to respond.

And if you prefer not to read the manual, Elvis has a dvd called “The Apprentice Magician’s Guide to PartilceIllusion” which will walk you through virtually every feature in under 2 hours, and which you can find at http://www.creativecowtraining.net.
