I get this…but what I am still not getting is why it looks better if I export a still of this footage from FCP than if I export it from QT Pro.

No, this is not HDV, this is DVCPRO HD using a Panasonic Varicam. Some reason FCP interprets 720×1280 footage this way…but is not the problem. My problem is wanting to just be able to export good looking still of this footage though QT Pro, but they look bad.

I would say to stay at 24p if you are going to do an online either way. A broadcast monitor is most important at the online stage…but for put the cut together, you should be good just using your computer monitor…in my opinion.

It is unbelievable how similar the Lugz spot and the Ipod spot are. You really can’t even imagine the similarities until you watch them play side by side…Looks like that ad agency probably lost a big client.

Thanks for the post. I do not have any in or out points marked on the clips. They are subclips though, and maybe that is where the problem lies. I am going to do a test and try to put a few masters in a timeline and see if I have the same prob. Thought that I heard of people having EDL problems when working at 60p for some reason. I dunno. The weird part is the second set of TC in the EDL, which tells you where in the timeline the clip should be seem to be fine…which would really be the important thing if I actually had an edit, but I am just trying to recapture clips on another system.

you might want to also put the de-interlace filter on the freeze frame or it might appear to jump around.

Will if you actually had them BURN it in then there really is no way to get rid of it. Often what people will do is one of 2 things:
1. Have two copies, one with window burn and one without
2. If they plan to mask it for a wide screen aspect ratio, they will have the burn down towards the bottom and then cover it up with the mask.
