Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy EDL Problems

Why is it that when I export an EDL and then look at it in Excel, the tc is always off by a few frames when compared to the clips in fcp? The media start will usually be 1-3 frames off and the media end can be anywhere from 1-10 frames off, both can be off in either direction. Why is this not accurate? I am working with 720p60 dvcproHD footage…but this isn’t even a cut, I just dragged my master clips into a timeline to recapture the selects uncompressed on our Flame.

    Thanks,
    Eli

Remember that there is a difference between the MEDIA START and END and the marked IN point and OUT point of the clip. It could be that the actual MARK IN/OUT of all the clips is a few frames “inside” of the actual media start and end times.

Make sure that you’re checking the EDL SOURCE IN/OUT times by comparing the EDL output to the TC shown in the TIMELINE for each source clip (turn on the TC overlay for the source TC and place the playhead at the beginning and end of each cut).

If this doesnn’t solve your problem, the you could have a TC offset problem or a sequence setting that is wrong.

    All the best,

Thanks for the post. I do not have any in or out points marked on the clips. They are subclips though, and maybe that is where the problem lies. I am going to do a test and try to put a few masters in a timeline and see if I have the same prob. Thought that I heard of people having EDL problems when working at 60p for some reason. I dunno. The weird part is the second set of TC in the EDL, which tells you where in the timeline the clip should be seem to be fine…which would really be the important thing if I actually had an edit, but I am just trying to recapture clips on another system.

    Thanks,
    Eli
