September 16, 2006 at 4:09 am in reply to: is it possible to copy a 14gig FCP clip?thanks jeremy — i tried that too, other files copy no problem. it appears to be this one clip. maybe there’s some corruption somewhere, but then why would it play OK in FCP?
i’m going to readdress after this weekend.
thank you for the input.

no luck… i tried it twice. it’s wide open in the info. right now it’s the safest file in the world. it just doesn’t want to complete a copy to another drive.
arrgh.

September 14, 2006 at 11:08 pm in reply to: is it possible to copy a 14gig FCP clip?oh, yeah… the file copied fully within the same drive, but still won’t make it to another external drive or even the desktop.
as far as a mac or pc formatted drive, i tried using both… to the same effect. it starts out all happy and copying, but then it locks-up. it’s like the file is laughing at me!

September 14, 2006 at 10:30 pm in reply to: is it possible to copy a 14gig FCP clip?no problem mentioning the space issue… unfortunately it’s not that. here’s the thing that’s bugging me now:
it will copy the file but only to the same drive? however, now it doesn’t stop copying at the same spot, it’s random. it actually got to 11 of the 14 gigs copied over prior to the latest lock-up.
the FCP export is doing the same thing… any other ideas? is there a setting i don’t know about? it just seems to hate this certain file.
arrrgh.

thanks for the quick post… i’ve moved bigger files myself. i thought it was a corrupt file as well, but it plays fine in FCP. tho’ it does seem to lock-up about the same place. i’m gonna give it one more try… i repaired my permissions just for the heck of it. cross your fingers and i’ll post if there’s any progress or not.
thank you again,

yeah, i was bummed too… compressor has more control, but not nearly the convenience that the QT option had.
ce la vie’.
good luck!

hi brett-
i think apple is pushing people to use compressor instead of the QT conversion. i noticed that the latest versions of QT don’t have the option as well. i’ve been using compressor, and tho’ not as user friendly, it does the work fine for me.

August 27, 2006 at 5:34 pm in reply to: green screen shoot: HVX FW to PowerBook 15″ thru FCP to SATA — will this work?thank you for the input!
i did a quick test a few days ago and i’m going to do another one in the next week. i went with the 40 flat line green and shot a little bit directly into FCP. strangely, though it doesn’t mean anything, it makes the files QT without a FCP wrapper on it. this works out well since it’s going to AE.
when we do the shoot, i’m going to encourage the client to bring his tower to test the key on site.
it’s great to know in a pinch that FCP capture will work, but i’m now putting a panisonic monitor on my wishlist!
thank you for the help!
