    hi russ & gary-

    thanks for the reply!

after a few hours of going nutso, i broke down & invested in nattress conversions (i’ve found anything nattress is a good investment) and after implementing the conversion and to my surprise, that wasn’t it.

it turns out that it’s probably a setting on the HDCam deck (is this a smackdown from sony?). then we took a shot in the dark and added a FCP deinterlace filter on the output G5 and that did the trick?!

prior to delivery i checked the output on SD & HD monitors (progressive & interlaced) and the problem wasn’t there. i couldn’t even re-create it on my system. i have 3 more spots to deliver so i hope to get to the bottom of it on the next trip over.

again, thank you & glory to the cow.

my apologies… no offense intended. it’s actually an SNL reference not intended as a negative in anyway.

    hi mick-

about 50% of what i do is run & gun outside, in less than desirable weather conditions, so the P2 cards are the only thing i can use. the project is dvcprohd, so tape isn’t an option. but, man does HD eat-up the hard drive space. but it sure is pretty.

    thanks again for the input,

    thank you mick,

i did go the firestore route, after some initial problems i have one that works, and when possible, i shoot on the P2 cards at the same time. the cards may not hold much, but they are about bomb proof. the firestore is getting there, but i can’t use it on a lot of my shoots, and alas, it’s still gotta be imported via P2. but i’m digging the P2 overall. it’s pretty much cutting edge for cheap, unfortunately, you can get cut!

    thanks for tip!

i haven’t crossgraded yet, but i shall now… how will the crossgrade effect media already imported in 5.0.4?

    thanks again for the help,

  • shane & trevor-

first of all thank you for your expertise and advice.

since it’s NTSC, i’m going to encourage the client to stick with the 30p world and use shutter speeds and scene settings to acheive the look he wants. BTW, i have a kona2 card so on the fly downconversion is possible; however, delivery is straight to hard disk.

there will be some AE work done on the project as well, and i was thinking of using the DVCProHD codec so they could start off with the best image possible. i.e., let them do what they will – but they start off with a thing of beauty.

is there any merit to this thinking?

    thank you again,

September 18, 2006 at 5:24 pm in reply to: is it possible to copy a 14gig FCP clip?

that’s a good idea… but it still crashes? i tried it twice. i’m baffled. i have one idea left, i’m gonna try it, but i’m a little embarrassed as to say what it is. if it works, i’ll post back.

thank you rafael and everyone else.
