It *CAN* be done because NewBlue is doing it with their DirectX Stabilizer Pro plugin. The desired event does not have to be selected in order to click on the “Analyze” button. However, it’s not an easy task.

Why not just do an OpenFX plugin instead? You can get much more information about the event as an OpenFX plugin.

Mike, the NewBlue Pixelator effect certainly works just fine in the Movie Studio versions of Vegas as do all the other effects made by NewBlue.

Yes it is. I have this fully explained in Vol 2 #5 of my newsletters. In short:

Track 1: Mask – track compositing mode set to “Multiply (Mask)” Also add the “Sony Mask Generator” effect to the track

Track 2: Video to show in the White area. Make this track a CHILD to track 1

Track 3: Video to show in the Black area.

When you add the effect to an event, you will see a “Pan/Crop” entry with it. Drag it BEFORE the Pan/Crop and see if that does what you want.

Yes, Excalibur will also do the basic functionality. And while I wrote Excalibur and wouldn’t mind you trying it out, I believe this is actually what you are asking about:

I have found that when it splits files (over a chapter point) that I do seem to miss some audio. However, THE AUDIO IS THERE. You just need to combine the files first. I just go to DOS and then:

copy /b file1.mpg + file2.mpg + file3.mpg combinedfile.mpg

Then I load combinedfile.mpg onto the timeline and, sure enough, the audio really is there at the original split points!
