Place the music on the VEGAS timeline. Create a selection area for the length of the video on the menu. File – Render AS – make sure you only render the selection area. Now put this SHORTER music file as the menu music. (you may want to fade-out the music on the Vegas timeline before rendering)
The important key is that BOTH the VIDEO and AUDIO are exactly the same length. Otherwise, the longer one will continue playing after the shorter one runs out.
Your BEST bet would probably be to render a DV-AVI file WITH audio to use as your menu background. Then you don’t have to worry about them being different lengths. Plus menus have to be encoded anyway (to add the menu options) so it should give you a higher quality menu.

The “default” settings will allow for nearly 90 minutes of video. I have a bitrate chart in Vol 1 #7 (I think) of my newsletter. Just adjust the bitrate to match the length of your video.

1 hour of video in DV-AVI is about 13 Gig.
1 hour of video in MPEG2 is, basically, whatever size you want it to be – i.e. 4.5 Gig, 3.5 Gig, 4 Gig…. It will vary depending on what you use for the bitrates.
To put it a different way, you CAN fill a DVD full with a one hour program. You can ALSO fill a DVD full with a two hour program. Naturally a different bitrate is required for each.

That’s true, the “>” symbol is automatically removed as the other markers are deleted. Maybe that should be optional???

Yes, there IS a way (though why you would WANT to, I’m not sure). Yes, my previous NLE had the timeline on the bottom. I had no problems at all adjusting to the timeline being on top. However, to do so requires that you go into the “hidden” preferences tab to change a setting. This is generally not advised.
So… with the warnings that I DO NOT recommend doing this and to proceed and your own risk….
Hold down the SHIFT key and choose Options – Preferences
Go to the “Internal” tab
Locate “Frame Dock at the Top” and change it from FALSE to TRUEEdward Troxel

Another thing you could do is place a “comment marker” at that location. Manually add a marker there (press M) and make the FIRST character a > followed by any description you like. All markers beginning with > will be ignored by the Multi-Cam Wizard. If you choose to “remove markers”, all markers EXCEPT the comment markers will be removed. Then you can easily see those specific sections.
