Ok, looks like that is just a standard DV camera. Connect via firewire and use the EXTERNAL capture program. The external one is for standard DV. The internal capture is for HDV.
Once you open the external capture program, go to Options – Preferences and select the necessary options. Once that is done, it should pick up the camera just like the other programs do.

When you do a file-render as, you pick the file type and template you wish to use. If you want, you can also click on Custom, make some changes, and save that as a new template. So, yes it is possible to create a new template but you should not get a “new template file” in your render directory.
Once you’ve picked the file type can template and click to render, you will get a SINGLE output file of that type unless you subsequently do it again OR you use a script and have picked multiple output formats.

If you got an NTSC and a PAL file then you had to render twice. To be honest, I’m not sure what you’re seeing where. You would have to try pretty hard to get multiple files without knowing you were getting them. Can you explain more?

Many times, freezing also indicates a HEAT issue. Rendering hits the processor very hard causing it to heat up. If the airflow is no longer sufficient, it could heat to the point of freezing. Will it render if you take off the side and blow a fan at it?

You must still be on Vegas 4 or 3. What you need to do is turn OFF external preview and they will be available once again.

Do you have a red “frame recompressed” message on the screen preview window? In Options – Preferences on the Preview Device tab, there is a “Recompress Edited Frames” checkbox. Make sure that is checked. Otherwise, there must be something else going on.

For better quality, change the preview mode to Best (Full) first. For even better quality you can also change things like changing the project to progressive to deinterlace the image. The simplest way is via a script which can make all the proper changes for you, save the snapshot, and then change all the settings back to the way you had them. There appears to be a smaller round light on in the hallway too!
Was the light on the entired time? or was it turned on sometime during the shoot? Was it on tripod where the camera didn’t move?
If you have a shot where the light is off, the general method would be to mask it out in this version and then replace it with the version that’s “off”. That would work best if camera did not move during the shoot and the person didn’t walk in front of the light, though.
