  • Grab a frame and make a picture

    Hi there

This is probably another easy question, but I have searched and not found the answer (difficult to know what to search for sometimes).

Can I grab a frame of my video and make it into a jpg or a photo?

    Thanks
    M

Sure, just get the image you want to appear in your preview and click the far right icon, “Save Snapshot to file”

For better quality, change the preview mode to Best (Full) first. For even better quality you can also change things like changing the project to progressive to deinterlace the image. The simplest way is via a script which can make all the proper changes for you, save the snapshot, and then change all the settings back to the way you had them. For more details, take a look at vol 1 #5 of my newsletters.

Thanks Jeff, but when I get the image in my preview window, those last two icons seem to be greyed out. They are available when the preview area is black (obviously not very useful though!?).

Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

You must still be on Vegas 4 or 3. What you need to do is turn OFF external preview and they will be available once again.
