Yes, HDV is MPEG2 source. However, most recommend going to an intermediate format for editing. In fact, some render from this intermediate format for the final delivery. Others will revert back to the original M2T file for the final render so you’re only getting a single conversion instead of potentially many. The bitrates for the m2t file will also be much higher than you’ll find on a DVD so you’re starting with much more information giving you less quality loss.

Depends on what you mean. If you mean closed captioning that can be turned on and off on the TV, NO. What do you mean?

Safety vs space. If you go raid 0, you’ll have more space to use but losing one of the three drives would lose your files. Raid 5 would be safer in that if any drive went down you would lose no files and could simply replace the failed drive and continue BUT you’ll lose about 1/3 of your storage space so instead of 750 you’d have 500.

You will need to create the background video in Vegas. Use that for the menu background and then just add the two buttons on the menu as needed. If you want the buttons to look different as well, you can create the button text on the menu background and just add an “empty button” on top of those sections.

This is not a feature built into Vegas. As far as I know, the cable company that airs our church service has NOT told us this and I’m sure we’ll be submitting something the first week without closed captioning. At one time I did search for software to do this and didn’t find anything. Instead, the basic advice was to send it out to a company that does this sort of work.

It would depend on the format of that audio. If it was a VOB file with AC3 audio, Vegas 5 would not see the audio. Newly added in Vegas 6.0c is the ability to read the AC3 audio in VOB or MPEG files. Apparently the file you opened had an audio format Vegas could read.

I agree with Gary – you might be able to edit MPEG2 but it is not a desirable thing to do.

Would you believe I have it running on a Pentium III 300MHz? Naturally I don’t use it for editing but I *DO* test running Excalibur on that machine. I figure if that machine can handle it then YOUR machine should be able to handle it.

Likewise the XP SP2 requirement for HDV isn’t 100% true either – SP2 just makes it a LOT easier. In SP1, you have to manually add the proper driver. HDV supposedly works in Win2K also… *IF* you can find and install the right drivers.

At the top of the Text Generated Media FX box is a “Frame Size”. Try changing that. Another thing you can do is open Pan/Crop on those generated media and make sure the Match Output Aspect is set correctly (i.e. right-click the “F” window and choose “Match Output Aspect”.

If the project properties are set correctly at the time the generated media is added, it should automatically match the project settings.
