My tracks won’t stop speeding up on sony vegas!
Posted by Mae_savestheday on December 25, 2005 at 11:18 pmFor some reason everytime I record an audio track on vegas the track is sped up by on beat. I knew how to quick fix it by stretching the track out to make it the correct time but that doesn’t help me when I want to record more than one track for a song it just makes it extremely complicated. It is so bizzare. I even held my mic up to my headphones to record the metronome and when I played it back it was sped up one beat from the “real metronome.” I know that there has to be some option I need to change and I hope someone out there can help me because I am going crazy with this.

December 26, 2005 at 2:29 amTo the left of the transport controls (under the track headers) is a slider and a yellow triangle. If, when you play the timeline, the Rate next to the slider does not read 1.00, reset your ‘normal playback’ with the triangle.

December 26, 2005 at 5:37 pmJust to clarify ??
Do you mean “speeds up” or do you mean “ahead” or “late”.I mean is it consistantly off for a minute or is it drifting time ..over time.(starting on beat then loses sync)
Are you using Vegas5 by any chance?
I had past issues with this and just want to see if you have similar problems.
I spent hours narrowing it down. I recorded The metronome and put it on a track as audio file. Then I recorded myself clicking wood blocks together in sync with metronome. So I could visually see the timing/recording sync
I have had problems that the metronome was inconsistant with itself. (fluctuating patterns and audio levels.)
As well as issues that the recorded audio (wood block) was earlier than the “pre-recorded” metronome track.
I was using a edirol UA1A usb souncard (a basic 2ch I-O unit)Using the “directsound surround” audio driver as opposed to the “classic” helped the timing issue.
USB soundcards using classic wave driver tend to be finicky. A Windows thing

December 27, 2005 at 7:07 amI first want to say thank you for taking the time to read my concerns. So I tried switching to direct sound surround but that didn’t help either. Yes I am using vegas5. It starts on the beat and then gets out of sync gradually (like the wood block thing) Any other suggestions by chance?

December 27, 2005 at 2:40 pmHOW are you recording this audio that goes “out of sync”? Direct to the Vegas timeline? From some other app?
Have you confirmed the bitdepth/rate of the audio card to the bitdepth/rate you are recording in Vegas? Maybe it’s simply being interpreted as a speed different from what was actually recorded.
Just grasping at straws because I’ve not seen what you are describing.

December 27, 2005 at 5:28 pmI must agree with Edward’s response.
I have seen “offset” when recording but never a drift in time.
Visually or audibly.
I’m Curious how you are recording, the process and the equipment.
Usb unit or straight to a 1/8″ soundcard on the tower.
A lttle more info would help.

December 28, 2005 at 2:08 amI guess I am kind of new with computers as well as insufficient with computer lingo but I will tell you what I know.
I am using a mic that is pliugged into a 4-track recorder(that of which I am using as a mixer) that is pluged into the mic input on the front of my computer to record tracks onto vegas. It speeds up just by oone beat because for example I will record a track with the ruler set to 120bpm, play it back and it is faster than the metronome, then If I cange the metronome to 121bpm it is in time. -
