I have a Dell Precision 670 that I am running Vegas 4.0 on. Dell has suggested configuring my drives in a raid 5 so it will have automatic backup in case a drive fail. I was going to configure it as a raid 0. I have 4-250gig hard drives. One for my system drive and 750gigs for video and media storage. Any suggestions.

Safety vs space. If you go raid 0, you’ll have more space to use but losing one of the three drives would lose your files. Raid 5 would be safer in that if any drive went down you would lose no files and could simply replace the failed drive and continue BUT you’ll lose about 1/3 of your storage space so instead of 750 you’d have 500.

    And speed.

2 drive in raid 0 is also faster than only 1 drive.
Speed increease depends on the implementation, but
    THEORETICALLY
    the maximum increase is 2x.

    I did a quick test.
    My 2 drive array (2*maxtor IDE 80G 8MB cahce)
    tranfers about 74MB/sec.
My second drive, (160GB maxtor, IDE 8MB cache)
    transfers about 56 MB/sec.

These are measured with nero’s “test all drives
    speed”.
