When I specifically noticed this and asked about it, I was told that it would ALWAYS render when you had multiple angles. From that point forward I started using, and recommending, DV-AVI files when creating multi-angle DVDs. I think that as soon as it see’s multi-angle it just automatically renders.

Vegas can handle larger sized stills. The problem mentioned occurs when you have a LOT of larger stills it can eat up memory when rendering. If you render in smaller pieces it will work but, unless you pre-render, it could eat up memory until it died. This has been greatly improved in Vegas 6.0c but I can’t say 100% that it’s no longer a problem.

Generally speaking, though, you really don’t need that much resolution. Instead, you could resize them down to the size really needed. For example, if the image is 1200dpi, you might reduce it to 300dpi instead. Naturally on the ones you want to zoom in a long way you would need to keep resolution higher.

When using multi-angles, ALWAYS give DVDA a DV-AVI file as it will ALWAYS render to MPEG2 no matter what you give it – compliant or not. I was told this was because of the multi-angles and i-frames having to be in the right place, etc…

If it’s a Reference file, it is a very small file that points to other QT files. I was just wondering if you could point to the other QT files without using the reference. When you render to a folder, all the 2Gig pieces should be in the same place as the reference file.

[Stephen Sobel] “I was under the impression that some high end graphics cards ptovided the means to do some special effects. Is that not true?”

This is true if the program is written to use what is provided on the card. Vegas does not use the “special abilities” added to graphics cards at this time so, in the case of Vegas, it is NOT true. For some other apps (like Boris Red for example), it IS true.

Instead of using the reference file, can you just use all the pieces that the reference file points to?

December 27, 2005 at 2:49 pm in reply to: video menu buttons

As Peter said, the menu is rendered to MPEG2 format. Therefore, if the menu is set to loop for 15 seconds, it would be the length of a 15 second MPEG2 file which would be about 15 meg just for the menu background & moving buttons – remember, that would be PER MENU.

HOW are you recording this audio that goes “out of sync”? Direct to the Vegas timeline? From some other app?

Have you confirmed the bitdepth/rate of the audio card to the bitdepth/rate you are recording in Vegas? Maybe it’s simply being interpreted as a speed different from what was actually recorded.

Just grasping at straws because I’ve not seen what you are describing.

December 27, 2005 at 2:36 pm in reply to: triangles between clips

You can really notice if it’s not a “clean” cut if you have a fade in or fade out on one of the clips and it disappears. You need to zoom in on the timeline and verify the left clip ENDS on a frame boundry. If it doesn’t, shorten it until it does and all should be fine.

I’ve never investigated the different colors I’ve seen to figure out what each color might mean and have not seen such a description.

I guess my first question would be, why differentiate between SLR and Digital? My digital *IS* an SLR (Nikon D70).
