Well… they’re both the exact SAME encoder. However, you have access to the encoding options in Vegas so you can, potentially, get a better output from Vegas. With DVDA, the only control you have is bitrate and you’re just as well off letting IT calculate the bitrate.

Because there are different codecs that work in different environments. WMP can use some codecs that Vegas can’t see.

I use the waveform to get them “close”. I then use the 1 and 3 keys on the numeric keypad to nudge the audio until it’s right while listening to both tracks. If you need more precise than a frame, turn OFF “Quantize to frames” and adjust the audio further. Just remember to turn “Quantize to frames” back on.

Ok, if you wanted to edit the file – why render to DivX instead of DV-AVI or something less lossy?

DivX is, technically, not supported by Vegas. Many have gotten it to work. Do a search for DivX or XVid and you’ll get lots of hits and suggestions. Bottom line – you don’t have the proper codec installed for Vegas to see the video.

Sounds like you’re picking everything correctly. Are you on XP SP2? (sounds like you are)

I assume you rendered to MPEG2?
What preset did you use?

Sounds like you’re losing firewire connectivity periodically. This is frequently cause by IRQ sharing problems. It can also be caused by some hardware problems (i.e. VIA chipsets have been problematic in the past).

Are you using on-board firewire or a separate card? If onboard, you may want to try adding a firewire card. If you’re already using a card, try moving it to a different slot.

MPEG1 or MPEG2? Which preset are you using? (The “default” MPEG2 preset is awful!)

That would be a much better choice than what you are using now. You’ll see better quality captures, use standard DV-AVI files, and also be able to output back out to VHS if desired.

Are you using the Internal (HDV) capture utility or the External (SD) capture program?

First of all, track 3 looks TRANSPARENT instead of solid white. Secondly, the track level slider is at 99.4%.
