Vegas Movie Studio 6, Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 6, and the full Vegas 6.0c all allow importing from camcorder DVDs. In the full version, you just do a File – Import – DVD Camcorder Disc and point it to that disc. I’m sure it’s similar in either of the Movie Studio products. That should let you import and edit that video.

Having said all of that, MPEG2 is NOT a good editing format – it’s a fine destination format (i.e. creating DVDs). Instead, you should have gotten a MiniDV camcorder which you then capture via firewire to standard DV-AVI files. DV-AVI files are designed to be edited. The final step would be to render to MPEG2 to output to DVD.

Hollywood FX is not designed to work in Vegas. You might be able to do the effects you want in the other NLE and then import those into Vegas for the final project. Or you might look at some alternatives that DO work in Vegas such as Boris, Pixelan, Adorage, etc…

Have you tried pre-rendering the project? Or pre-rendering and/or render to new track smaller segments via a selection area? Try either of these before doing the final big render.

Just go back to the original project, add a new track to the TOP of the project, add and Empty Event to that track (for the full length of the project), and add a BORDER effect to that empty event. I picked the solid white border and then changed the color to black and it worked fine.

I’ll disagree. The problem IS because of the way you are CAPTURING. Buy the hardware you mentioned in the other thread and capture via firewire. Your “problem” should disappear at that point.

Can you see the VHS on the camera display? Is there a menu setting in the camera telling it whether the firewire is in or out?
