It’s mostly that I’m jealous. I’m using a 17″ PB for location editing and my 2 drive FW800 RAID is the best I can do.
I can do some UC8bit with it, but mostly use it for my Betacam to DVC50 editing.
I would love a SATA 2 drive array. Seritek makes a cardbus card for SATA, but I don’t think the performance gain is worth
the change. It seems that because of the PCMCIA slot bus, you don’t get the full speed of SATA.
And besides, the more I “suffer” with my FW800 setup, the more likely I’ll spring for a new Macbook Pro soon. 🙂

Ummm, no FW800 on the MacBook Pro? Better check again. And it’s a very fast laptop, faster than lots of Mac desktops.

You’ve got a MacBookPro, why are you even thinking of FW? For the absolutely fastest performance
on your laptop, the new SeriTek Express 3/4 SATA card is the fastest thing you can get. The dual-core
laptop is plenty fast enough for HDV, and with SATA drives (get 2 and a 2 drive case and stripe them),
there’s nothing faster.

Not enough info. Were *all* the settings the same except the dimensions? You have settings for total file size, total
bit-rate, etc. For example, you can select a setting that says the total size of the file is 9MB. Regardless of the pixel
dimensions, your final file will be 9MB. Is it possible you had it set like that?

It may not help you, but I recently had a similar problem. After trashing the prefs (and did you trash the Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro user Data folder
*and* the Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist too?) I had to do a shutdown, not just a restart.
