Has anyone successfully edited HDV on MacBook Pro?
Posted by Jbooth on June 21, 2006 at 6:27 pmHas anyone config’d a setup that works for editing HDV in realtime on a MacBook Pro? Before I go an invest in an external drive, I would like to know that someone has successfully done this. I have a G5 Dual as well, and have no problems. But I want to be able to work on things efficiently outside the office… that’s why I bought the damn thing!

June 21, 2006 at 7:56 pmThe issue with RT on a laptop is that its a laptop, and with the macbooks there is no FW800, also the bus isn’t ideal, now you can do a cuts only, but multi track RT is not likely to work… and you’ll need a faster HD…

June 21, 2006 at 8:05 pmUmmm, no FW800 on the MacBook Pro? Better check again. And it’s a very fast laptop, faster than lots of Mac desktops.

June 21, 2006 at 8:17 pmThe 15″ MBP models did not come with FW800, only FW400. The new 17″ MBP have both FW 400 & FW800.

June 21, 2006 at 9:37 pmYou’re right, of course, Andy. I was in my “the 17 inch MBP is the only one I’d own” frame of mind. 🙂

Ed”Ah, no problem. I was an early adopter and bought the 15″ for travel reasons. The new Intel chips sure fly. Working with Motion on my laptop is actually easier then my old dual 2ghz G5 with a 256 MB graphics card.

June 22, 2006 at 12:14 amoops my mistake… but still RT on a laptop is not going to happen with multi track yet… yes the mac book is fast but desktops are still faster when you compare comps in same generation…
